Emily’s POV
“Girls, do you guys want to watch a movie?” My mom calls out from the kitchen.
I look over at Ali and shrug. It’s 9:45pm on Christmas Eve so what better way to pass time till midnight is there?
“Or...I have some baby videos of Emily if you guys want to watch that.” My dad adds on.
“Uh no we’re f--” I begin to say.
“Oh my god yes please!” Ali jumps up in her seat and claps happily.
Oh fuck. Great. I feel my cheeks begin to flush as Ali reaches over to grasp my hand. The baby videos of me are some of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen in my life and the fact that Ali is now going to watch them in front of me makes it that much worse.
My mom slides the cassette into the player and sits down next to Alison, smiling. The first video starts playing and the first thing that pops up on the screen is my chubby face, grinning widely at a box of donuts in front of me. Alison breaks out laughing immediately and even though I feel like curling up in a ball, I chuckle softly.
“Oh god...here we go.” I mutter, ready to embrace the next hour of embarrassment full on.
The next video is a video of me swimming in the kiddie pool at the age of five. I see my dad at the end of the small pool with his arms wide open while I swim slowly, but happily, into his arms. My head is barely above the water so it looks like I’m drowning in a way. After I get to the end of the pool, I giggle uncontrollably and the camera zooms in on my big smile. Almost instantaneously after that, some random boy cannonballs into the pool, causing me to drop my smile and break out crying.
“AWWW!” Alison says while laughing. “You started crying because someone else jumped into your pool? That is so cute.”
“Hey...shut up. I was little, okay?” I pout.
“Your angry face hasn’t changed one bit!” My mom points out.
I turn to give her a sarcastic look, but she’s too busy laughing that she doesn’t even notice. I sigh and shake my head.
“You were so cute.” Alison gushes.
“Were?” I cock an eyebrow at her.
“Yeah, were. I don’t really know what happened to you.” Alison says nonchalantly, trying to hide her smile.
“You wanna go?” I challenge.
Alison bursts out laughing and kisses me on the cheek. “I’m kidding, baby. You’re cute as hell.”
Two hours later, the cassette runs out and the four of us have all laughed so much that we’re all very tired. Alison snuggles up into my arm and sighs contently.
“Well, your mother and I are going to go to bed now. We’ll see you two in the morning?” My dad says.
“Okay, sounds good.” I smile.
After my parents walk upstairs, Alison looks up from the nook of my neck and motions for me to give her a kiss. I lean down and grant her wish happily.
“Seven minutes till Christmas.” Alison murmurs quietly, smiling into the kiss.
“You’re not getting your present till tomorrow morning nonetheless.”
“Why?? Please?” Alison whines.
“Nope. So what are we going to do for the entire winter break?” I ask, changing the subject.
