Chapter three: Desperation

I stared down at Britany as Devan pulled out the sliver stake from her chest. I already knew she was going to be in some seriously pain when she awakes. Devan informed me in what went down while I was asleep. We both agreed on not letting her go to school today, but I knew Brit was going to fight us on that one—she needed to rest and heal—I just have to inform her about not going. Britany didn't have any color to her face; she was just really pale and she had burn marks on her arms and back from hitting the sliver wall. I can't believe her mother made sure to build in a sliver wall in her daughter's room, and made the builders somehow paint over it or the builders just made her wall look like they were painted gray also I could tell her wall was mixed in glitter which gives depth and glamour.

I hated seeing her like this, I should have protected Britany from her mother but instead I failed, I didn't save her. I hope she can forgive me. I heard the door opening as Angel enters the bedroom. "Hey Britany, just thought I would let you know I'm about to go and take a fast shower, you should do my hair and make-up for schoo...." She got cut off as her eyes landed on Britany. "What the hell HAPPENED ALEC?!" She yelled.

"Do not shout!" Devan said. "She needs to rest. Alec will inform you out in the hallway, I will stay here with my mate." I got off from the bed and headed out of the room with Angel following me.

"Britany's mom happened." That's all I had to say for Angel to understand. "She through a sliver stake into her chest and Devan pulled it out before it could cost any damage."

"Alec we both know she's not full wolf, that's probably why her mother done this to her. This makes me hate her mother even more—is she going to be okay?"

I nodded my head. "Yes, in time she will be. With the Angel part she has inside her would make her heal even faster."

"That's good."

"We need to make up a plan for making Britany stay home." I added. "I think one of us should stay with her, and I think it should be me since it's my job."

"She will fight us, she would want to go to school today and if she wants to go then let her, just make everyone believe you didn't go. That way you can protect her better."

"Just let me handle the last part. I know just the right thing to say to her." When our conversation was over with she headed out to the bathroom, and I headed back to Brit's room. Devan was laying beside her stroking her dark-brown hair as I walked in.

"She should be waking up at any moment, I can tell through our bond." He told me as I went to sit down on her computer chair. I told everything to Devan about mine and Angel's plan. He agreed on it. "Alec, so you're telling me Britany won't even see you at school, but you will be there to protect her from the Black Star pack? And anyone else who wants to harm my mate?" I nodded my head; still not wanting him knowing the truth about me. He just has to take my word for it. "You're not human or werewolf if you could turn yourself invisible—what are you?"

"I can't tell you that. But you can't say a word to Britany about any of this." I told him.

"Fine, you can keep your big secret from me for now but I will find out Alec, you can't hide this for long." I glanced over at Britany, already feeling her emotions—she was in a lot of pain and she was also confuse—I could tell Devan could sense this as well. "If your job is to protect my mate, what else can you do?" He asked.

"Things I can't tell you Devan, but I have a feeling you won't let this go, I understand why though...you care a lot about Britany, I had you wrong all this time." I got up and went over to Britany's side of the bed. I put my hand over hers trying to take away her pain. It worked....I could tell she was completely healed. I took my hand off from hers quickly as Devan drew in a long sigh. Thank you God for assigning her to me, I'm trying my best down here, and I know you have good trust in me...I promise I won't let you down.
