Chloe's POV
"To me," I giggle and drink what's in my cup which is just beer mixed with some strawberry syrup and it actually doesn't taste half-bad.
"How long have you been singing for?" Courtney asks me, as we take a seat at the bar.
"All my life really. Singing is my favourite thing to do."
"I don't blame you. You're really good at it!"
"Thank you!" I blush again.
God, why am I acting like I'm back in high school? I like Beca! Maybe that's why I do like Beca because she looks similar to Courtney... No, I don't want to think about that. It feels kind of wrong if that's the case. I want to like Beca for who she is not because she looks like Courtney who is all of a sudden having a drink with me. But I guess that's my type though - long, brown hair, dark eyes, and a good body. Courtney is a bit fuller in regards to shape but in saying that, she's wearing clothes that accentuate her curves and compliments her feminine figure - Beca doesn't. What I wouldn't give to see that woman in a dress...
"So, how have things been since you left high school? You said that you graduated law school but what else has been happening?" I ask.
"Oh, nothing much. I went straight into law school and focused on that. It was a full-time thing from start to finish so between that and my part-time job, I didn't have much time for anything else."
"Fair enough. I can't imagine being a law student. Doing my music and teaching degree was hard enough!"
"Hell yeah! That's two subjects so put them together and you've probably got the workload of a law degree. Not that I'm saying that your degree wasn't as hectic as mine."
"That's okay - I know what you mean."
"Tell me about your work. It sounds fascinating."
"Well, I teach music to underprivileged kids. So, I teach them how to sing, how to read music, and play instruments."
"You can play instruments as well?"
"Yes, I play the piano but I can play a little bit of guitar as well. It's mainly to help get my pitch right but it's also fun to know how to play an instrument."
"I bet! I always wanted to play the piano. I always found it so fascinating how people could just sit down and play it."
"Yeah, it's good fun. Do you play any instruments at all?"
"No, I never was musically gifted."
"That's okay. We all have our strengths and weaknesses."
"True. Do you like your job?"
"I love my job. I'm on holiday at the moment for two weeks then I go back."
"Nice! Enjoying the break then?"
"Yes. It's full-on working but it's good and I feel good afterward. I feel like I've actually done something right, you know?"
"That's so sweet. You always did have a big heart."
It's nice that she's interested in what I'm doing and saying nice things but I still don't know why. I think I should ask her.
"If you don't mind me asking, how come you're talking to me? I don't mean to be rude but we hardly spoke in high school so I'm just wondering, well... why now?"
"Well, Chloe... Here's the thing... I may have had a crush on you in high school."
"What?" I choke.
