We stand in the field waiting for this trespassing vampire to explain himself. My aunt preforms a small healing spell and gently touches her staff to my forehead. I feel the pain dissipate and I am thankful I no longer have to deal with the slight throbbing sensation. Vincent holds up his hands in surrender.
"I have been hearing some.. things through the grapevine and I thought you might want to be made aware of these things, since they pertain to you and your kind." he states calmly. "I was making my way to your home when I spotted your lovely niece plucking herbs over here by the hot spring. I was shocked at the resemblance she shares with Lucinda but was unaware she bore a child so I thought it was a Fae impersonating her. Or trying to." I glare at him as I clench my fists.
"That does not give you the right to just attack me." I say while clenching my teeth in irritation.
"Even your angry face is just like hers." He muses. My hands start to shake and I can feel my magic humming under my skin. My aunt places her hand on my shoulder and shakes her head, silently telling me not to use my magick. I sigh and turn my attention back to the vampire, Vincent.
"Where is Lucinda?" he questions my aunt. My body goes still and my aunt takes a deep breath next to me before answering his question.
"She passed away about fifteen years ago.." My eyes tear up and I don't even attempt to stop the tears from spilling over. Asher puts his arm around my shoulders and starts to lead me back towards the house as I hear Vincent let out a primal cry.
"There is no way I would have felt it if she left the physical plane!" he screeched. "She was in a car accident." my aunt states sadly. Their conversation fades as I walk away with Asher.
We walk in silence, his arm brushing against mine.
"So.. Who is that vampire?" I question after I can no longer take the silence.
"He is a royal vampire but he does not rule because he is the youngest born. He has five older siblings." He states calmly. "I am unsure as to why he attacked you for looking like your mother, nor do I know what sort of relationship they had. You would probably find out more by asking your aunt instead." I hum to myself as I nod my head and we continue our trek back home.
I forgot how far away it is from the hot spring but I might as well get use to it since I will make this walk in less than two weeks on the night before my birthday. I steal glances at Asher from the corner of my eye.
"How old are you?" I ask timidly.
"I'm twenty five." he replies.
"Have you found your mate yet?" I blurt out, a light blush staining my cheeks.
"That's quite the personal question, isn't it? No I have not found my mate yet. The moon goddess must have blessed me with someone special for it to take this long. Usually my kind find our mates around twenty one." he explains.
"I see, well I'm sure she will show up soon after it being that long." I murmur to myself but he picks up on it due to his heightened senses from being a werewolf.
"Is someone jealous?" he teases, giving me a cheeky grin. I start to blush harder and deny the question. He grins even harder as he stops. I'm a few steps ahead when I realize he has stopped walking so I turn around to ask him what he is doing and he is right in front of me in an instant. I start to back up and he matches me with steps forward, until my back hits a large oak tree.
My heart rate starts to pick up when he leans forward with his arm right above my head so I have to look up at him. With his free hand he grabs a piece of my long blond hair and starts playing with it.
