Alex smiled at the young man standing in front of him. He bounced Philip up a little, and looked around awkwardly.
"Do you want to take a seat?" The man hesitated.
Alex nodded feeling like a complete idiot. "Yea, that would um, that would be great." He smiled once again, only this time it was wider and he walked towards the chairs and sat down.
John watched with intent at the movements the older boy made, and that was strange because all he was doing was sitting down whilst holding a baby.
Alex placed down the tow bags, and say Philip down on his lap.
John quickly snapped out of his little trans and walked over to his desk sitting across from Alexander and the baby.
"So, Im guessing you've seen my pleas for help?" John joked.
Alex nodded, and pulled out his phone. "My friend showed me it. Well, he texted me and he told me that you needed a secretary." Alex explained sliding his phone across the table to John to see.
Instead he just flicked his eyes from the phone, Alex, and Philip repeatedly. He was clearly interested in the family, but he had to focus on the interview.
John slid the phone back over to Alex, and crossed his hands on the table, fixing his posture.
"Tell me, Mr.Hamilton. Why should I hire you?" John cocked his head to the side, genuinely interested in what the shorter man had to say.
"Honestly, Mr.Laurens, I don't have an actual answer for you. I just..I need the job. I'm a single father, and I don't want my son to grow up in the same conditions as me. His life as already been hard and he's only one month old."
John raised his eyebrow, and leaned closer. "How so?"
Alex but his lip, and looked down at Philips mainly bald head. "His mother died when she gave birth." He whispered.
John immediately softened, and gulped. He knew this that felt. Not losing a mother to death, but losing a father. His relationship with his mother had always been rocky, and when his father Henry died it only became worse.
She was always chasing money. John even described her in a magazine once as, quote "A money hungry whore. That's all she's ever wanted from my father and I, and that's all she will ever want. God forbid my father takes his last breath before her, because she will be the first one to get his wealth."
Then it happened. His father passed, and his mother jumped at the chance to inherit all of his wealth. John didn't like that at all. Lucky for him his father had left a very lengthy will specifically stating that John would get everything he left behind.
All the money, houses, cars, and the industry went to him, and he wasn't complaining. Not because of his new wealth, but because that's what his father wanted. So he was fine with the decision.
John shook his head at the memory, and replaced his sympathetic face with his natural stone cold one.
"I'm sorry to hear that, Mr.Hamilton." He swallowed hard before speaking again. "But, it showed on your resume that you've never worked anywhere before? Why is that?"
Alex sighed and shrugged, a bad move on his part. He thought it made him look unprofessional in Mr.Laurens's eyes, but instead it made him look hotter.
"Well, when I was 19 I graduated from Kings College, well now Columbia University, and then I moved in with my then girlfriend Eliza Schuyler. We lived in a small apartment that was paid for by her family, but then she decided she wanted to be closer to them, so we packed everything up and moved towards them. We've lived there for years until recently. They got me an apartment for me and the baby. Well, at first it was for me and my late wife Eliza, but now it's just for the two of us." Alex tickled Philip's tummy for a few seconds, and smiled at his little giggles.
