"Fitz!?" Called a rather familiar male voice as you stride down the halls of Riverdale High.
It was your first official day back in town after spending the past two years with your dad in New York, and your mother had refused to let you skip school.
"Tan!" A boy with dark hair beamed with excitement as he grabbed your shoulders.
"Jughead Jones?" You smiled after seeing his handsome face, you could recognize him anywhere, especially with his beanie on.
"Holy shit!" He smiled from ear to ear as he pulled you into an almost crushing hug, not that you cared to mind at all.
"I missed you, Juggie." You admit, taking a wiff of his sweater as you pushed your face even further to his chest. "I was worried I wouldn't know anyone-"
"I don't think you have to worry about that!" An excited voice cheered as you were picked up and spun around by none other than Archie Andrews.
"Honor! You're back!" Betty Cooper nearly cried as she latched onto you. "I can't believe it, I missed you so much!"
"Bitty, Betty Cooper! I've missed you!" You admit, smile unable to leave your face as you held her shoulders as tight as you could.
It may be your first fifteen minutes in this school but standing next to three of your best friends made you feel so at home, for a split second it felt like nothing had changed, as if two years had passed over night.
"Has anybody seen Jason?" You asked, ever hopeful that he was here today.
As much as you love and missed Juggie and Betty, spending another second in town without seeing your very best friend felt wrong.
Jason was easily the one person you could trust in this town no matter what happened or what kind of trouble you were in, he was always looking out for you. As a matter of fact, Jason was the only person you told that you were coming back to Riverdale for at least the school year, hopefully longer."I can't wait to see him and tell him about New York, you three would have loved it!" You smile so wide you feel like your face might crack, picturing the wonder in his green eyes as you talk about your adventures in The Big Apple.
You felt the shift in the air when you mentioned his name, your three friends no longer making eye contact with you.
"What? Is he out sick?" You pout, wondering if he kept the spare key in the same space so you could drop in on him after school.
"Tanner.." Jughead spoke up as he put a firm hand on your shoulder. "Jason.. He.."
Betty's hand rested over your other shoulder before she pulled you into another hug.
"Jason Blossum was murdered over the summer, Tan.. He's gone." Archie frowned.
You almost couldn't register his words, but you felt your heart shattering while you slumped into Betty's hug.
"He- He-" You stuttered. "No, Archie! He's not! He can't be!"
You broke away from Betty's tight embrace, running for your car, not caring that your friends were chasing you as you turned the key and sped off toward Thornhill as fast as you could go.
You tried not thinking about him until you saw the red glint of the estate, your tears kicked up again as you parked, leaping from your vehicle you wasted no time in grabbing Jason's key from under the old pet rock you had shared."Still better than a guard dog, Rocko.." You sobbed, racing to the door and unlocking it.
You slammed the big front door, skipping every other stare as you literally ran to Jason's bedroom, which was locked.
You found his room key shoved under a very small patch of loose carpet infront of his door, knowing all of his secrets made you feel special for a brief moment. The door opened to an empty room, the atmosphere felt cold as you looked at your friend's things.
You entered, dropping your bag by the door as you slowly made your way around the large bedroom, he had rearranged since the last time you had been over but everything still felt pretty much the same, the whole room sung Jason's name as you snooped through his belongings.
You opened his dresser drawers, finding the sweater you gave him the last Christmas you two spent together. He had given you a "Blossom" red sweater and you had given him a "Fitzgerald" blue sweater so everyone could see that you were two peas in a pod.
You were wearing a navy blue dress with black pumps today but you couldn't help but pull the sweater over your head, causing a book to fall out of the dresser."Jason's Journal.." You thought out loud as you scrambled to get the key from his nightstand.
The door opening alerted you, causing you to shove the key in your bra as you hid the book under his pillow.
You turned around, the door opened very slowly to reveal Jason's rude sister."Honor, is that you?" She asked, eyeballing the sweater and what was visible of your dress, which seemed more like a skirt now.
"Honor.. What are you doing here?" She asked as she entered the room, slowly making her way to sit next to you on the bed.
She was looking around the room, sorrow etched into her beautiful face as she took a seat.
She may be rude, but she and Jason were probably the two best looking people you had ever met, together you're sure that they broke some necks, what with all those heads turning."Did.. Have you heard?" She asked.
"Is he really.. Is Jason gone?" You sob, looking at her as tears began running down both of your faces.
"I'm sorry-"
"No.." You sigh, overcome by grief. "Cheryl.."
Neither of you said a word as you both fell back on his bed, crying into each other's hair for the next few hours.
