I quickly change out of my PE uniform and back into my school clothes. I shut my locker and grab my binder, heading to the hallway. I'm stopped when I hear someone say my name. I turn around to see Chubs running to the door to the locker room.
"You trying to leave me?" He says as he comes up to my side.
I chuckle and walk into the hallway. I don't see Y/N so I wait outside the girl locker rooms.
"Are we waiting for your girlfriend?" Chubs asks, smirking.
My eyebrows draw together. Then I realize he's talking about Y/N.
"Dude I just met her like five hours ago." I reply, rolling my eyes.
"Sureee." Chubs says. "Anyways, you wanna hang out tonight?"
"Can't. Got practice with Cole."
"You seriously do that like every day." Chubs complains.
"If every day is every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday then yes." I reply.
Y/N walks out, interrupting our conversation. We both look at her, and she looks back at us.
"Um, ready?" She asks.
"We can't leave quite yet. The bell hasn't rung yet." Chubs answers.
I glance up at the clock and see there's only fifteen seconds left until the bell rings.
"Who cares." I say as I start walking.
Chubs and Y/N follow me. The bell rings just as we exit the PE hallway.
"See." I tell Chubs.
He just rolls his eyes.
We get to History and Y/N asks, "Chubs has History, too?"
I nod and show her to her seat. She plops down and sets her binder on the desk. The teacher, Mr.Apren, starts talking, and I do my best to pay attention. History has never been easy for me.
                     *******
After History I say bye to Chubs and walk with Y/N to our lockers.
"Do you ride the bus?" She asks me.
     I shake my head.
"My brother drives me. I stopped riding the bus once kids started acting like idiots." I reply.
She nods and continues getting her stuff out of her locker. We both finish at the same time and Y/N looks at me.
"So, see you tomorrow, I guess." I say.
     "Yep." She replies.
She walks to the buses and I walk to the parking lot. I spot my brother's truck right away.
"Hey, Cole." I say as I get into the car.
"Hey, Lee." He replies. "How was school?"
"Good. A new girl came and I showed her around and stuff."
      He just nods.
"So, I was thinking baseball at four? I have work at seven-fifteen." Cole asks.
"Sure." I respond, checking my phone.
I got six Snapchats and one text message. The text is from my ten-year-old sister, Claire.
Can you ask Mom if we can have pizza tonight?
"Claire wants pizza." I tell Cole, looking away from my phone and at him.
He glances between me, my phone and the road, and says, "Did she ask Mom?"
"Looks like," I start. "Nope." I finish. "She wants us to."
Cole sighs. "Fine."
Gotcha, Sis
I check my Snapchat. It's all just streaks. We pull into the driveway of our house and I click my phone off and shove it into the pocket of my sweater. I grab my backpack and get out of the car. As I walk into the house I see Claire sitting on the couch watching TV.
"Hey, Claire." I say as I put my backpack down.
"Hi, Lee." She responds. "Oh, Mom wants you to take out the trash."
"Okay." I say, rolling my eyes.
I put my backpack down in my room and go to the trash can. I take the trash bag out, tie the strings into a knot, and put a new bag in the trash can. I grab the full bag of trash and take it outside to the side of the house. I see a girl walking this way, earbuds in her ears, her phone in her hands. She looks pretty. Peaceful. I've never seen her, so I get curious. I throw the trash into the big trash can and I wipe my hands on my jeans.
The girl gets closer, and I realize it's Y/N! How could I not tell? My mind goes back to what I thought when I saw her a few seconds ago. She's pretty. Did I really think Y/N is pretty? It's fine to find a girl pretty, right? She walks to the neighboring house, then one closest to the side of the house I'm on.
She takes one earbud out and says, "Liam?"
I look from the trashcan to her.
"Y/N?" I say, acting like I didn't already realize it was her.
"You live there?" She asks, gesturing to my house.
I nod.
"You live there?" I ask, pointing to the house she is about to walk in to.
"Mhm." She replies. "Wait, why didn't I see you on the bus?"
"Oh, my brother insists on driving me. Harry says it could also help our bond."
"Harry?" She has wrapped up her headphones and turned her music off.
"My step-dad." I tell her.
"Ah." She says, her head going back slightly. "Well, I gotta go now. See you tomorrow."
"Yep." I say.
••••••••••••
Cole walks into my room just as I'm shutting my computer down.
"Ready for baseball, Baby Bro?" He asks.
I look at him and say, "Yep."
I set my computer on my desk and follow him downstairs and into the garage. He grabs the bat and I grab the baseballs and gloves. Cole opens the garage and we walk into the front yard.
"You wanna do pitching or batting first?" Cole asks.
"Pitching." I say.
I don't really know why Cole asks. I always say pitching. I'm a better thrower that hitter. I grab my glove and Cole gets his, also getting a ball. We both back up and I get ready to catch his pitch. Cole throws the ball, and I catch it, as usual. I grab the ball from my glove and throw it back to Cole. He catches it, his knees popping when he squats to catch it.
"Back up." Cole tells me.
I do. Cole throws another pitch, this one faster. I catch it but the ball smacks again my glove and hits my hand through the glove. I throw the ball back and shake my hand out, trying to get rid of the tiny but sharp pain in the middle of my hand.
"Too hard?" Cole asks, concerned.
"Just a little." I reply.
I stop shaking my hand and deal with the pain. It eventually goes away. After thirty minutes of pitching, we switch to batting. I take off my glove and inspect the palm. Looks like nothing happened. Good. I grab the bat and I get ready to hit.
"Ready?" Cole asks.
I nod. I put my elbows up, gripping the bat tight. Cole throws the ball and I watch it, right up to the moment when it hits my bat. I swing hard, going for distance, and the ball crashes right through Y/N's kitchen window.
