I hum Void by The Neighborhood as I unpack boxes in the living room. Suddenly I hear something crash and fall in the kitchen. Maybe a glass cup?
I walk over to the window and I see glass on the floor. Along with a baseball. I pick it up and examine it. What the heck? I look through the now open window and I don't see anyone. I hear the doorbell ring and I walk over to the door, the ball still in my hand.
"Y/N?" I hear on the other side.
I open the door to see Liam standing there. There's someone standing a few feet behind him. He looks just like him, but taller and his face has a little more age.
"Liam?" I ask.
"I'm sorry. My brother Cole," he jabs his thumb back in the direction of the older boy. "and I were practicing and I accidentally hit the ball into your kitchen window."
"Oh." I say.
What else am I supposed to say?! I've never been in a situation like this before! My dad comes down the stairs.
"Y/N, who's here?" He asks, walking towards the door.
I swing it open wider and my dad steps into the doorway.
"Sir, I'm sorry but I may have hit a baseball into your window." Liam explains.
My dad takes a glance over to the kitchen, sighs, and says, "It's okay, kid. We'll get it covered."
Liam swallows and we exchange a worried glance. My dad leaves the door and starts dialing a number on his phone. I step outside and shut the door. Liam looks to his brother, who has started making his way up onto the porch.
"Um, this is my brother, Cole." Liam says.
Cole gives me a small wave and I offer a small smile.
"We're really sorry." Liam says, again.
"It's fine. We'll figure it out." I reply. "Just be careful next time, please."
Liam nods. "Of course.
"So, I'll see you at school tomorrow, then."
Liam nods, turns, and walks back to his house, his brother right behind him. Cole mumbles something to him and Liam elbows him in the side. I chew on my lip for a second and then return inside.
••••••••
The next morning, I walk outside to go to the bus stop and I see Liam leaning against his brother's car, busying himself on his phone. I ignore him and walk to the bus. I'm just about to get my phone out and plug in my headphones when I hear someone call my name. I spin around and see Liam jogging up to me.
"Hey. So my brother and I wanted to see if you'd like to get a ride with us? I mean, the bus is usually crowded and kids can be idiots and we have enough space in the car and it really isn't any trouble." He says.
"Um, sure." I reply.
He smiles and starts walking to the car. Cole ruffles Liam's hair and Liam swats his hand away.
"Morning, Princess." He says.
I have to say I'm kind of taken back by the nickname. I just met these guys yesterday....
I hop in the back and Cole and Liam jump in the front.
"Dude! You should sit in the back with her." Cole says in a hushed voice.
Liam sighs, unbuckles, get out of the car, and comes to the back, sits down, and buckles up again.
"Ready kids?" Cole says. We both silently nod and Cole puts his car in reverse, backing out of the driveway.
The ride to school isn't as awkward as I expected it to be. Cole asks me about the move and my family and I tell him. The two boys tell me a little bit of there story. It's not much, the most interesting thing is that their little sister was a surprise pregnancy.
We get to school and when the bell rings Liam leads me to our lockers. The whole day feels almost like routine already. I'm not really enjoying school, but I'm not hating it. Liam waves to a lot of people in the halls and sometimes I feel uncomfortable but it's all good.••••••••••••••
When PE rolls around, I go into the locker room and change. I go out and I see Liam leaning against a wall, waiting for me.
"You don't have to wait for me." I tell him.
"It's okay." He replies, shrugging.
We walk into the gym and everyone is walking. We walk around too.
"Hey, so I'm having a party tomorrow at my house. You can come if you want. It's just a casual party. We're gonna play games and watch a movie and stuff. So yeah. It starts at 8:00." Liam tells me.
"Oh." I say, looking at him. "I'll ask my parents."
He smiles. "Okay."
••••••••••
When I get home I see that the window is fixed and all the boxes are gone. I walk to the living room.
"Did you guys finish unpacking already?" I ask my parents.
"Oh, yes. The lovely neighbors came and helped." My mom says.
"You mean Cole?" I ask.
My mother turns and looks at my father as if to ask if that what his name and then says, "Yes. Cole."
"Oh." I reply. "Um, speaking of the Stewarts, Liam invited me to a party tomorrow at his house. It starts at 8:00."
My mom looks at me. "That's wonderful! You should totally go."
I look to my dad.
"I think you should go, too. You'll probably meet some kids there. Maybe even a boy." He says.
I roll my eyes at the last part. "So I can go?"
"Yes." My parents say in unison.
I feel weirdly excited. I go to my room and flop down on my bed, unlocking my phone. I check my Instagram and Snapchat. Then I tell Amy all about my day and she tells me about hers. At the end of the day as I'm laying in bed, I think of the party. It seems fun, like a nice thing to do on a Friday night. I hope I meet new people. Well, I guess I'm going to a party.—————————————————
