Upon the first bell, everyone began moving across the halls towards their homeroom classes. I walked through the halls looking around to see any kinds of landmarks on the walls or lockers that gave me more information on this school and it's activities. Posters advertising the sports teams, academic clubs, and other extracurriculars. A few trophies in a case but nothing too important to stand out. My wall scanning then began to search for room 124 for my homeroom class. It took some effort to squeeze through the crowd of students to move to the left side of the hallway but once I did I entered the room greeted by the sight of what I assumed would be my full class of seventeen other students and one teacher. I took the closest seat to the door, four desks back from the front.
The teacher, Mrs. Turner, gave the usual rundown of introductions. "Welcome to Green Mountain High School. Use the maps I put on your desks to help you navigate to your classes. Applications for clubs and sports end Friday of next week so sign up quickly. Meetings and practices start today so if you're interested go ahead. That's about it so just talk amongst yourselves until your next class." She didn't seem too interested in this based on her tone and quick synopsis so she sat down at her desk and began doing something on her computer. A few students moved around and began talking to each other but I just sat in place laying my head on the desk to get some extra sleep.
Around ten minutes after, the intercom rang a bell to signal class change. I slung my backpack over my shoulders and glanced at the map. I sighed realizing I'd have to walk to the other side of the school for this class. Oh well, better get used to it, I sighed internally. I walked down the previous hallway took a few turns and came to a long empty hallway all by itself with only three doors, two on the right and one on the left. Seeing the room I was scheduled to be at I walked towards it, following inside the door behind two girls giggling with each other over something.
Entering I was greeted with a large open room with an arc of chairs containing three rows, a whiteboard, and a table where the teacher was seated typing on his laptop. On my right were two double doors leading to a connected room while on my left were three doors that held rooms so small I could see the walls from inside. I took a seat in the third row, not worrying too much about proper placement yet since it was the first day. Once the tardy bell rung, the teacher stood up clearing his throat. "Welcome to band."
