Chapter 5
(Aura POV)
I woke up to a pounding sound on my window. Looking outside, I noticed that it was pouring raining. Great! What a nice start to my first day of school. I huffed and rolled out of bed.
I took a quick shower and got dressed in a pair of light wash jeans and a maroon sweater. After getting dressed I brushed my hair and applied a little bit of mascara. Even though I'm not a person who likes to put on makeup, this is my first day of school in a new town with new people, so I need to make a good first impression. You know, the Halo Effect.
Looking into the mirror and deciding that I looked presentable enough, I walked out of my room and into the kitchen, where I was greeted by Isabella's smiling face.
"Good morning Aura! Are you ready for your first day of school?!" Isabella said enthusiastically, while Tracy, who was sitting at the kitchen table eating a bowl of Cheerios just rolled her eyes.
Tracy was wearing a literal bra and a really short skirt which she probably bought from the lingerie section at Target. She had her hair straightened pin straight and was wearing a lot of makeup on her face which were a couple of shades too dark for her skin tone.
I sat down in the farthest corner of the kitchen table from Tracy and poured myself a bowl of cereal.
After finishing our breakfast, Tracy and I both got into Isabella's car and started driving off to school. Tracy was sitting at the driver's seat glaring daggers at the car in front of us. She has been this way ever since Isabella forced her to drive me to school with her.
Our school was in walking distance, but since it was raining outside, we had to take the car.
When we were out of Isabella's eyesight, Tracy abruptly stopped the car.
"Get out." She stated, not taking her eyes off of the car's windshield.
"What do you mean? It's pouring raining outside!" I exclaimed.
"I don't want to be seen with you at school. I thought we cleared that up the first day you came here!"
"But I didn't even bring a jacket with me! I will be soaking wet by the time I get to school!"
"Does it look like I give a damn!" I glared at her, crossing my arms and then got out of the car.
"Oh, by the way, don't ever think about mentioning this to mom because she would never believe you." She yelled through the car window and drove off. Leaving me there, soaking wet and having to walk to school.
***
I arrived at school after five minutes, shivering with frizzy hair and mascara running down my face. My sweater was soaked with water and has probably shrunk a size or two on the way.
I looked like a character from a horror movie.
As I entered the school building, I was greeted with stares and whispers from the students around me. I made my way through the corridors that were packed with students who mostly, were minding their own business and arrived at the main office to get my schedule.
The lady behind the desk gave me a weird look but didn't comment on my appearance. Instead, she asked me for my name and grade.
After grabbing my schedule, I made a stop by the girls' bathroom to try and clean myself up. I wiped off the mascara from my face and tried to tame my wild hair with my fingers. Emphasis on the word "tried". I took off my sweater and twisted it to get rid of all the access water, then I held it under the drier for around five minutes to get it to somewhat dry.
