A Quest of The Heart

Ch. 1

"The News"

It was a beautiful Autumn morning. All the leaves throughout the land were changing from green to red and orange. The air had a slight chill to it and the sun had peeked over the mountain range just beyond the castle.

A bright beam of sunlight pierced through the window of the castle, shining directly into Prince Shouto Todoroki's face, waking him from his peaceful slumber. As he shifted to hide his eyes from the sun he accidentally woke up his brown and tan cat who had been sleeping at the edge of his bed. She hissed from the sudden awakening and then bolted off of his bed.

"Geez... Sorry," Shouto grumbled to the cat as he sat up.

The Prince crawled out of his bed, his red and white hair a mess. He began to remove his plain white shirt from his body as he walked to the large bathroom within his chambers. He did his morning routine: use the bathroom, wash his face, comb his hair, and then get dressed for the day.

This morning the Prince was especially excited and happy as he dressed himself. He quickly put on a pair of black pants, a royal blue and white trimmed shirt, dark leather bracers, his dark leather boots and a navy blue jacket. On his way out of his room he picked up his silver sword and fastened it to his belt. As he made his way down the long staircase all he could think about was the training ahead.

He reached the ground floor of the castle. He walked through the long corridor until he came across the massive dining hall and entered. Sitting at the large red wood table in the center of the room sat his siblings, Fuyumi and Natsuo Todoroki. He heard them speak his name in their conversation, but once they noticed him they stopped talking and looked to their young brother.

"Good morning sis. Bro. What were you guys talking about? I thought I heard my name come up?" he asked them. Shouto remained standing at the end of the table looking down at the two of them who were sitting side by side. "I didn't do anything to annoy you guys right? Why do you keep looking at me like that?" he questioned them further as he noticed the strange expressions they wore.

Natsu sighed. He was about to speak up when he was silenced by their elder sister as she cupped her hand over his mouth. "It's nothing Shouto. Don't worry about it," she said with a cheerful smile. "You should sit down. Breakfast will be out soon. You'll need your strength since you'll be training with Lady Yaoyorozu today. You know she'll scold you if you don't have your strength."

Shouto rolled his eyes. He was suspicious about what his brother and sister had been talking about, but it was clearly something important that Fuyumi didn't want him knowing. He walked around the table and took a seat just as the chefs brought their breakfast out.

"Thank you," Shouto said to the chef as he set the plate of food before the Prince. "So where is Yaoyorozu anyway? She's never late for breakfast."

Within the large castle up in the fourth floor and at the end of the hall from the Prince's room, Yaoyorozu sat on the edge of her large bed. She sat, not dressed in her armor yet but in her linens as she looked out the window beside her bed. She watched the Autumn leaves fall from the trees and blow through the air, being carried by the morning breeze.

She let out a small sigh as she kept her eyes on the castle courtyard. "There is to be an announcement tonight after dinner that concerns Shouto. I know his Majesty has informed Prince Natsuo and Princess Fuyumi about it... But he hadn't informed me at all," she thought as she clenched her shirt over her chest. "The King wouldn't be replacing me at all would he? I don't believe he or anyone is aware of my feelings for Shouto.. I am his knight. His personal knight... I've vowed to protect him. He and I could never be together.. I.. I must bury these feelings..."
