Marinette looked up into the sky, her face tear-stained.
"Marinette?" a familiar voice said.
Marinette looked around cautiously, not making a sound. Just as she was about to go back inside the trapdoor she saw a boy land on it, looking at her with concerned eyes. They were a beautiful emerald green. "Are you okay?"
"Chat Noir!" Marinette jumped. "Um... yeah, I'm fine. What are you doing here?"
"Well, I was passing by and I saw you here... crying." Chat Noir lied. He had planned on visiting her.
"Chat Noir, I wasn't crying. I was just... shedding... tears of... joy?" Marinette lied, horribly.
"Wow, you're such a great liar." Chat Noir said sarcastically, giving his signature grin. "You wanna talk?"
Marinette sighed. "I already told you that my crush friend-zoned me. Now you want me to say this?"
Chat Noir sighed and looked down at the cars. "You're right. I'm sorry."
Marinette leaned against the railing of the balcony. "I'm glad my kitty isn't nosy." she teased, tapping her finger on the bell around Chat Noir's neck, causing it to chime. "My 'crush'," Chat Noir didn't like that she used air quotes. He used to be her crush. Not anymore. He used to be fine with that. Not anymore. "asked me to correct his homework. He looked so sad. I accepted and told him I would check it. After I gave it back to him I asked if he was okay. He said yes but his face didn't agree. I asked if he was sure and he yelled 'yes' again and left me standing there. I don't know why he was mad. I don't know what I did wrong."
Chat Noir looked up at Marinette, looking into her sad bluebell eyes. He could tell she was trying to hide it. What did you do Adrien? You broke one of your best friends. The boy had never felt so bad in his life.
Then, there was a spark in his heart. The smallest spark...
for Marinette.
"M-Marinette... what happened before he asked you to check his homework?" Chat Noir asked.
"Well, one of my best friends had asked me to go out with them. I was going to say yes but then he pulled me away." Marinette said. His heart ached. It was like he had been stabbed. And that's not even enough. It was like he was stabbed by Ladybug. That would hurt even more than a stranger doing it.
"Well... Marinette... what if he liked you?" Chat Noir blurted out.
He had admitted it (sort of). He liked Marinette. Even if Marinette didn't know it was Adrien saying that he had said it.
Adrien Agresté said it.
And he liked it.
He was proud to love Marinette.
"What? Pshhhhh, come on Chat Noir. He doesn't like me. Why would or he like me? I mean, he yelled at me. Worst joke ever Chat Noir." Marinette said, bursting into fake laughter.
"Well, maybe he brought you away from when your friend just to get a chance to talk to you. Maybe he didn't like the fact that your friend asked you out."
"Or, he just wanted me to check his homework and then yell at me."
"Oh, Marinette." Chat Noir looked at her, gazing into her bluebell eyes. "If only you knew." And with that, Chat Noir jumped off the railing, landing on a building. Marinette watched him leave until he was out of sight. She looked down at Tikki, who had come out of her purse.
"What did he mean by 'if only you knew'?" Marinette asked once Tikki had come out of the trapdoor.
"I don't know, Marinette," Tikki said. "I don't know."
