Sunpaw stretched as she woke at dawn. The den was empty except for Frostpaw, who was staring at her impatiently. "Come on already!" She ordered. "You're going to sleep the entire day away! I'm sure you could sleep for however long you wanted when you were a loner, but now you're a Clan cat! So hurry. Up!"
Sunpaw rolled her eyes and got out of her nest. Frostpaw has no idea what it was like as a loner, she thought. Fighting for every last morsel of prey, left at four moons by your mother, chased out of every bit of land by bigger cats- the Clan is leisure compared to that.
Frostpaw turned and stalked out of the den. Sunpaw followed after, and saw that there was almost no cats in the clearing. Skypelt and Peonystorm hurried over. "Finally, you're up," Peonystorm snapped. "We were waiting."
Skypelt laid her tail soothingly on the younger warriors' shoulders to calm her. "You two can relax for a while," She told Frostpaw and Sunpaw. "We're going to do a battle training session later, but that's not until noon."
"Well, you can relax after you clean out the elders' bedding and do their ticks," Peonystorm added. "Go on! Hop to it."
Frostpaw rolled her eyes and turned, padding to the medicine den. "You can eat first!" Skypelt called. Frostpaw didn't turn to the fresh kill pile, but Sunpaw, belly growling, quickly ran over and snapped up a minnow. The small, fleshy fish did virtually nothing to soothe her growling belly, but she had to catch up with Frostpaw. She hurried forward.
"Featherpelt! Cloverfur!" She called. A light gray tabby she cat with green eyes padded out from the shadows and called, "What is it?"
"We need mouse bile," Frostpaw explained. The she cat nodded and walked off the way she came, her tail swishing behind her. She reappeared a moment later, a stick poking into some foul-smelling moss clutched in her mouth. She passed the stick to Frostpaw and turned to Sunpaw. "This is mouse bile. Be sure to clean your paws in moving water when you're done. Don't lick yourself."
Sunpaw nodded. "We also need moss," Frostpaw added, voice slightly muffled due to the stick. "Around the back," The she cat replied. "Okay. Thanks, Cloverfur," Frostpaw said. "Yeah, thanks," Sunpaw echoed. Cloverfur nodded and padded away.
Frostpaw led Sunpaw around the medicine den where indeed there were thick clumps of moss growth on the maple trees. They reached up and clawed chunks down, then headed to the elder's den. "Rosefoot, we need you to move," Frostpaw said in a lofty voice. "We're going to change you're bedding."
Rosefoot nodded and got out of her nest. Sunpaw set down her moss and realized that Wimdheart wasn't in the den. "Where's Windheart?" She asked Rosefoot.
"He's out taking a walk," Rosefoot explained. Sunpaw nodded and began helping Frostpaw take out the moss from her nest. When they finished, there was a big pile of moss lying near the entrance. Rosefoot had clambered into Windheart's still-empty nest and fallen into a light doze. Frostpaw turned to Sunpaw. "Take these out to the forest. Bury them. I'll do Windheart's."
Although Frostpaw didn't seem to like Sunpaw, she seemed determined to be fair. Sunpaw nodded and grabbed the moss in her jaws and carried them out of camp. The hungry feeling in her belly was gently intensifying and the sun was high in the sky as she buried the soiled pieces. She went back to find Rosefoot gone from the den too. "Where's Rosefoot?" She asked Frostpaw.
The white she cat waved her tail back out of the den. "She went to find Windheart. He's still not back from his walk."
Sunpaw nodded, accepting the answer, and began pulling the moss out of Windheart's nest. Frostpaw stayed where she was. Sunpaw looked over her shoulder. "Well, come on, aren't you going to-"
Frostpaw cut her off. "Where did you come from?"
Sunpaw turned around, eyes wide with shock, and blinked in surprise. Then she snapped out of it and said coldly, "That's none of your business."
"We're supposed to be Clanmates now," Frostpaw shot back. "Clanmates don't have secrets."
"Well your certainly showing that with Stonepaw!" Sunpaw retorted. Her powers flashed into her mind, but she pushed them away. The had to stay secret. "Anyway, Clanmates have a right to privacy. And this. Is. Private!"
She turned and stalked out of the den, not caring where she went or who saw her. She stormed into the forest and didn't stop until she reached Sky Tree. She has no idea, she fumed. No idea at all.
Behind her, a twig cracked. Sunpaw didn't notice till a voice said, "What do we have here?"
