Blaine Anderson sprinted through the halls of McKinley High School, dodging students and open locker doors. He turned a corner and slammed into somebody.
"Ow!" The person whined, but Blaine could hear his chasers coming up the hall, and instead of apologizing, he grabbed the person and pulled them into the first hiding place he could find: a janitor's closet. Blaine held his breath as he heard Karofsky and Azimio run past his hiding place, then turned to see who he had kidnapped.
It was a boy. But, not just any boy. A boy who was currently trying to reapply hairspray to his hair, watching himself in the little compact mirror he had propped in his hand. Kurt Hummel.
Kurt seemed to feel Blaine's eyes on him and he looked up. Blaine quickly turned his sight to the ceiling, but he knew that Kurt had caught him.
"It's rude to stare, you know," Kurt said, closing his mirror and putting it in his bag, along with the hairspray. "It's also rude to crash into someone, not say sorry, then drag them into a closet," Kurt smirked as Blaine turned a nice shade of tomato red.
"Sorry," The shorter boy mumbled, his eyes glued to the floor. "I was running away from some bullies." He admitted and Kurt's face softened. He had his fair share of bullying too.
"Who was chasing you?" Kurt asked softly, turning over an empty, blue bucket and sitting on it, crossing his legs.
"Karofsky and Azimio." Blaine sighed, grabbing a bucket of his own and sitting next to Kurt.
"Why were they chasing you?" Kurt prompted, an eyebrow raised in question.
"They were bullying one of my friends and I told them to leave him alone. Then they started to chase me and I bumped into you, and here we are." Blaine explained, gesturing to the janitor's closet.
"Do you know what would help?" Kurt asked, putting a hand on the other boy's knee, making Blaine's heart do jumping jacks. "If you got some friends-"
"I have friends!" Blaine cut off, his triangular eyebrows scrunched together.
"You didn't let me finish! What would help, is if you got some friends who will stick up for you, just like you stick up for them. I suggest joining the glee club." Kurt said, holding Blaine's gaze with his captivating blue eyes.
"Glee club? I think that might make my bullying situation worse!" Blaine cried, eyes wide.
"No, it won't. Before the glee club, I was bullied a lot, but then I joined and whenever my friends saw that I was in trouble, they helped me out! Trust me." Kurt assured him, scooting his bucket closer. Blaine suddenly became very aware of how close their knees were and felt his cheeks turn a little pink.
"Fine. I'll try it." Blaine said finally, some uncertainty laced into his voice. "How do I get in?"
"All you have to do is sing for us. Come to the choir room today after school. I promise you won't regret it." Kurt said, standing up and putting his bucket away.
"Okay...oh, and thanks, Kurt," Blaine said before the chestnut-haired boy could leave.
"How do you know my name?" Kurt asked, turning to face the shorter boy.
"Oh! I...um...we were in Spanish class together last year!" Blaine finally blurted out. That was a lie. The real reason that Blaine knew Kurt Hummel's name, was because he had had a crush on the older boy since freshman year. But, Blaine could never tell him that, so he just held his breath until Kurt nodded and turned back towards the door.
"I'll see you in glee club, Blaine." Then with a wave of his hand, and a flirtatious wink, Kurt Hummel was gone. Blaine let out the breath he had been holding and sunk against the door, his heart beating faster than normal.
