Bold is elvish (for this chapter)
Underline is Khuzdul (for now)Faelwen wasn't that old when Erebor was attacked. She was only twenty-five. Still considered a child by both her parents. For you see, she neither a dwarf, nor an elf, but both. She was the daughter of Prince Frerin, and Thranduil's niece. She was adored by all she met. She was especially spoiled by her fellow dwarrow.
Dwarflings were hard to come by, especially females. As she grew up, Faelwen continuously proved she was one one of a kind. As per elf standards, she was already walking and talking at the age of one. When she was five she spoke fluently in Sindarin, Westron, and had began speaking the basics of Khuzdul.
When she wasn't with her tutors, parents, she was either with her grandma, or her uncle Thorin. She was one of the few that could crack his shell, and get him to smile. But when the Arkenstone had been found, she changed. She went from being in awe of Thror, to being down right terrified of him. She would cry every time she had to be near him. As the madness grew, Faelwen spent more time in her room. She refused to leave, unless she was required to. When she learned that Thranduil was coming for a visit one day, she grew excited. She hasn't seen her greatuncle since she was twelve.
___________
Faelwen was sitting at her desk practicing her Khuzdul with her nanny, when her mother, Halwen came in.
"Flower, you remember my uncle Thranduil?" The elf said, kneeling next to her daughter.
"Of course I do. He's your father's brother." Faelwen said, while writing.
"That he is," Her mother said chuckling. "He's here in a meeting with Thror. Do you wish to go see him, before he leaves?"
Faelwen looked up with a gleam in her eye, and a grin on her face.
"Yes please!"
Faelwen grabbed her present for Thranduil, and held on to her mother's hand as they made their way to the gates.
"Ceri- cin think ho will like nin ant?" (Do you think he will like my gift?)
"Of course, meleth nín." (my love)
They waited patiently by the gate. Faelwen held her present like it was the piece of mithril in existence. When she spotted her uncle, a grin etched its way on to her face.
"Nanaeth! I see him!" (Mother!)
The two walked over, excited to see Thranduil.
"Uncle!" Faelwen called out.
_________
But on that day Thranduil did not acknowledge his nieces. For he had just declared all dwarves of Erebor greedy, and traitorous. Faelwen's heart grew heavy. Knowing that Thror had something to do with Thranduil's behavior. From that day on, she refused to come out of her room at all. Her mother pleaded with Frerin to do something. But not even he could anything against his grandfather. Little did they know, that it would come to a head.
_________
Faelwen was in her room reading, when her mother and a member of the royal guard rushed into her room. Her mother hurriedly packed as many clothes as she could, before grabbing her daughter.
"Naneth? Mas ledhiam?" (Mother? Where are we going?)
"The moutain is being attacked, little one. We need to leave."
"Where's ada?" (Dad)
"I don't know."
The three of them were close to the gate, when Smaug knocked a large boulder off the ceiling. Halwen tossed her daughter out of the way before she was crushed. Faelwen screamed in horror. She tried pushing the rock off her mother.
"Princess we must go!"
Faelwen grabbed the jewelry that had fallen off, and followed the guard out of the mountain.
"Where's my adad?" She asked the guard. (Khuzdul for dad)
"I do not know, princess." The guard member picked her up, and carried her.
......
It had been months after the fall of Erebor, when Thror wanted to take over Moria. But they were too late. Orcs had already taken the ancient kingdom. They fought nonetheless. The orcs' leader was a ruthless Gundabad orc named Azog The Defiler. He was hellbent on destroying the line of Durin.
He started by cutting off Thror's head. Thrain was driven insane. He disappeared, either killed or taken prisoner. No one knew. Thorin was able to defeat Azog, and drive the orcs away. After the battle, what remaining dwarves there were, collected the dead, and held a mass funeral. It was only then, that they realized that Faelwen was missing. They searched everywhere, with no such luck.
Little did they know, Frerin had stashed his daughter in a small cave not too far away. He had told her to stay there, and wait for someone to come for her. It was only when a week had passed, that someone came for her.
It was Gandalf. He found her, took her in, and raised her to the best of his abilities. After a few decades, they went their separate ways, and Faelwen settled in the Shire of all places. She found that hobbits were quite curious, and cautious. But she proved that she wasn't a threat, they welcomed her with open arms. Little did Faelwen, or the hobbits know, their quiet lives were going to be shaken to the core.
