Eliza ignored the topic of her husband in that week, the children kept relatively quiet with the acceptation of John being so young. Philip was looking for work as a poet but no one would take him, Angelica sometimes went with him when Alexander jr. stayed with their mother instead of her. She had to keep her mother sane until she requested their father's return.

It was a truly, dreadful week.

"When is Papa coming home?" James asked Alex one day, Alex looked around, remembering their mother was sewing in the parlor, they were in the kitchen.

"I don't know, don't dare ask Mama." He said, just in that moment Eliza walked into the room, smiling questionably at her sons.

"Don't ask Mama what?" she asked, Alex was about to run out the back door in fear but he stayed put, James being the innocent nine year old that he was looked up at his mother with wide eyes.

"Alex told me not to say." James admitted, Alex sighed, his hands starting to fidget. He would be affect the most by the absence of his father, as he was old enough to understand but he wasn't all too close with his mother. He wasn't Philip, yet he was a second father to his younger brothers.

"What did you tell him not to say Alex?" She asked, the first time that week the name slipped through her lips. Alex looked to James, who was smiling and so unaware. Alex sighed.

"James asked me when F-Father was coming home." Alex mumbled as his father did. Eliza heard it quite clearly though, her face stiffened, saddening.

"Very soon, okay? Do you miss him?" She asked, ignoring the older boy.

"Yes, we all do. He made a mistake but I still want him here. Angelica said it was before John was even born, it was so long ago why does it matter?" James asked, Alex looked at him surprised at the advanced reasoning. He looked to his mother, nodding in agreement.

"Alex, can you please give James a book to read and let him watch John, come back when you're done please." Eliza ushered, Alex nodded questioningly, but took his brother's hand and gave him a novel to read, giving him instructions. James simply nodded and smiled, tending to John with ease.

Alex was the only one who knew that James acted younger than he was because he was afraid of becoming old. He got very scared of it, so scared Alex was the only one who held him. He had a crush on a boy in the neighborhood, and Alex was the only one who knew. The favorited Philip, adorned Angelica, Jesterend John, Jittering James, and Alone Alex.

It seemed as though they just gave up after Alex was born.

Alex ran down the stairs, approaching his waiting mother. Angelica was sitting beside her now, looking at her younger brother and sighing. The age gap wasn't huge, they were pretty close with all honesty, but Philip was never close with his brothers. The only thing he'd do for them is help them walk. It was all Alex from then on out.

"Tell your father he can come home, won't you?" Eliza asked, Angelica smiled suddenly, as did Alex.

"Of course, when do you want us home?" Angelica asked.

"As soon as you can get him here." She said, Angelica nodded, standing right away and Alex followed, going through the back door and to the city streets.

They walked past the main park, a man by the name of George Eacker was making a speech to a large group of working class men. It was independence day, politicians in the front row, even Thomas Jefferson, but not Hamilton. Alex spotted Philip from afar, looking up angrily at the man.
