Ponyboy led me into his house. It was identical to mine. He opened the door and took me inside. There was 2 boys sitting on the couch watching Mickey Mouse cartoons, a older boy sitting in a recliner reading a newspaper, and two boys in the kitchen.
"Guys this is Cynthia Grey." Ponyboy said as he walked into the kitchen. So I kinda just stood there as everyone looked at me. After what felt like a hour Ponyboy came back with a coke.
"Where's Dally?" he asked the boys.
"He was hauled into the station, he was a witness to a jumping." the older boy said.
"Let me guess Randy and his crew?" Ponyboy said as he rolled his eyes. My heart skipped a beat at Randy's name. He promised me a few months ago he wouldn't fight anymore.
"So that's Darry, my older brother and that's Soda-pop my other older brother over there." he said as he nodded his head towards a boy with dark gold hair and movie star looks.
"Soda-pop is 17 and Darry is 20, I never asked how old you are." He said with a smile.
"I'm 17." I said with a smile.
"Cool, that's two-bit, Steve, and Johnny."
"Hi." I said quietly.
"You can go sit down, I'm gonna go and talk to Johnny. And god damn it Soda make room!" he laughed. I laughed a little. And made my way over to the couch. and sat in between Soda-pop and a boy wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt and his hair greased heavily.
In fact all of the boys had there hair slicked back, and their jeans and old t-shirts. Some of them had leather jackets.
"Names Two-bit." the boy with the Mickey Mouse shirt said.
"Hi." I said shyly.
Two-bit was about to say somthing when a boy with light skin and dark hair burst into the room.
"There he is!" Darry exclaimed as he stood up.
"How did it go?" Two-bit asked.
"Fine." he said very plainly.
Then he noticed me.
"Who is this?" he asked with his head slightly turned.
"Cynthia Grey." Soda said.
"You idiots realize who this is right?" he said almost laughing.
They all looked confused.
"Who is she?" a boy with dark skin and black hair asked while peeking his head out of the kitchen, followed by a boy who looked like soda a little bit.
"I tell you who she is Johnny boy." he stopped and gave me a over-friendly smile.
"She's a soc."
Everyone's mouth dropped open. They looked at me then the boy then Pony.
"Pony did you know?" Darry said as he stood up.
"Yea so what? Her parents lost their jobs and she had to move.
"So why is she in the house?" The boy asked coming towards me.
"Chill Dally! She's fine." Ponyboy reassured Dally.
"I should go." I said while standing up, but Dally stood in front of me blocking my path. Studying my face.
"Is that your REAL hair?" he half asked half laughed. While picking up a piece of hair and twirling it.
"Leave me alone." I said quietly.
"Oh she is a feisty one!" he said with a crooked smile and taking a step closer. He had ice blue eyes with these high cheek bones. He was oddly beautiful.
"Com'on Dal leave her be." Soda said.
But Dally took another step closer. I could feel his breath .
"Hm your eyes are a grey, cute. No but really is this your real hair color? I mean it's awfully blonde." he said getting closer.
"Get off if me." I commanded a little louder than before. But he took a step closer, so close I thought he was gonna kiss me. I tried to push him away but he kept coming closer.
"Leave her alone Dallas." Soda said in a threating tone as he came in between us.
"Yeah man just let her go." Ponyboy said backing up Soda. Dally looked hurt for a second then quickly covered up with a mean kinda looking smile.
I turned to Soda.
"Thanks he had me real scared for a minute." I said with a smile.
"No problem, but you didn't seem scared." he said.
"Well I was scared." I said then looked down.
There was a long period of silence before I had no choice but to break it. I really did hate doing this, breaking awkward silences.
"I should really get going. My parents are gonna skin me when they find out I'm not on the porch steps." I said with a sigh.
Two-Bit came walking up.
"We are going to go see a movie, you wanna come?" he asked as he lit a cigaret.
I thought, come home to my parents screaming or get to know this side of town. I wasn't ready to go home, not yet.
