"Bella" Belladonna's  POV

Age:21

"Twenty! Ready or not here I come!" The warm strongly accented voice of my beloved step-father rang through the park.

I giggled as I hid in a nearby bush and watched him scan the park dramatically with his hands cupped around his eyes like binoculars. He searched high and low, inside of trash bins, on the playground equipment and even checked a tiny hole in the tree next to me that I couldn't even have fit inside. More giggles escaped me.

"Hm, where could my little Bella have gotten to?" He leaned against the tree next to my hiding spot with a sigh.

I tried to hush my giggling only to let out a loud squeal of laughter as he pulled me out of my hiding spot and tickled my sides.

"Found you!" He laughed at my squeals of laughter before hugging me close.

I bit my lip as the bittersweet memory drifted across my mind's eye. I closed my eyes and tried to immerse myself in it, I could feel the warm spring air on my skin, smell the fresh cut grass and the sweet smell drifting from the bakery across the street from the park where we'd often go for sweets after our adventures. Sorrow gripped my heart as I thought back to his infectious laughter, his warm hugs, and his accent. My step-father, Dino, was from Italy, he'd fallen head over heels in love with my mother when he was here on a trip with some of his pals. They got married right away before my mother had even told him she already had a kid with another man. Dino didn't care, he accepted me as his daughter right away.

The night air had a chill to it and I pulled the hood of my black jacket up, covering my choppy bright acidic green hair. Ahead of me, stumbling in the dark was an inebriated young couple. The young man had nice clothes, a fancy watch and the girl had a designer bag, they looked like good targets. I picked up my pace and bumped into the pair of them, activating my quirk as I did, releasing a non-lethal dose of hemlock just enough to paralyze them before releasing a small dose of my namesake Belladonna more commonly known as Deadly Night Shade to cause them to hallucinate so they wouldn't see me. Once the pair hit the ground I scanned the surrounding street before searching their pockets and the designer bag. Jackpot. I'd managed to lift a couple hundred bucks before patting them both on the arm with an antitoxin and continuing on my way, pocketing the cash.

After a few minutes I heard the young couple getting back on their feet and laughing that they'd both drank too much as I turned the corner. They'd be fine. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a familiar, unforgettable face. It was a young man a year or two older than myself with unruly dark hair, piercing teal eyes and pale skin with patches of almost necrotic looking dark discolored skin that appeared like patchwork and was held together by what looked like medical staples and stitches in some areas there were two patches beneath his eyes and the entire lower half of his face starting at the crease in his lips, everything from his bottom lip stretching to his ears and down to his shoulders was the strange mottled patchwork flesh that looked dead and rotting. His piercing teal gaze fell on me, I wasn't sure if he recognized me or not it had been a few years since we'd last run into each other. We completed a job together for some criminals, he was often changing his name so I had no idea what name he was going by these days.

His face was an expressionless mask as he met my gaze. "Plague Rat?" He resorted to the nickname he'd given me during our job, it was a nickname that had anyone else said it, I'd have killed them, but there was just something about the way he said it that made me feel almost happy.
