Bella's POV
People were screaming and fleeing in panic, there were sirens in the distance drawing nearer with every passing second. My stepfather had us holed up in a sky rise building that was currently under construction. He hid me in a nearby broom closet as the sirens got closer. Sweat was dripping off of him by this point, pooling around him. There was a sickly pallor to his skin and his eyes looked glazed and unseeing.
"Don't worry my darling little Bella. I'll keep you safe. No matter what, I'll keep you safe." He sobbed, descending into madness, as he set me on my feet in the closet. "You are the light of my life, my sweet princess. Thank you for being my daughter. I love you Bella."
"Daddy, don't leave me here." I cried.
"Sh, it's okay. I'm going to take care of all the bad people, when it's done, run as far from here as you can." He kissed the top of my head. "Be happy, live freely and trust no one, Bella." Reluctantly he moved away from me before closing the door encasing me in darkness. "Don't make a sound Bella, no matter what happens."
I watched in terror as he staggered away from the door. Pressing myself to the floor and peering through the small crack under the door I watched as a swarm of policemen busted through the door of the stairwell. They didn't even try to talk to him, they opened fire but he'd already activated his quirk.
I covered my head with my hands as the bullets hit the top of the closet door and wooden splinters and various other debris from where the bullets hit various things in the closet rained down upon me. Careful not to make a sound I shook out my hair to get the dust and debris away from my face and peered out the door. All the policemen were dead.
My stepfather was facing a giant of a man with sunshine golden hair. He was wearing a red white and blue suit with a cape, it was the hero All Might! I couldn't hear them, they were too far away but it looked like he was trying to talk to my stepfather. Tears streamed down my cheeks. Why couldn't they see, he was sick, he wasn't himself. Something was wrong. Why was nobody helping him?
A forest of thorn covered vines shot up from the floor and even the surrounding walls swarming toward All Might. He swung his fist and there was a massive explosion of sheer power sending the vines and their thorns splintering away. My father fell to the floor in front of the closet door.
"I won't let you take my Bella-." He choked. Blood spewed from his lips, one of his own thorn covered vines had impaled him. "DIE!"
The entire building shook and thousands upon thousands of thorn covered vines filled the entire floor and swarmed toward All Might. The last thing I saw before the building began to give way, was All Might launching a much more powerful attack sending a thorn covered vine through my stepfather's skull.
I woke with a cry and lurched into an upright position nearly cracking my skull open on the planter box I'd fallen asleep under on a bed of toxic plush black moss. Tears welled in my eyes at the painful memory that still plagued my dreams. Later on, I got a hold of the police report. My stepfather OD'd on Belladonna from prolonged exposure since I didn't have a good grasp on my quirk. It made him hallucinate and made him ill. The police report made note of his last words and included the speculation that he was using some form of Belladonna as a substance and thought he was trying to protect his perfectly legal supply of Belladonna. Not a soul knew of my existence, they thought the building was empty and didn't even bother searching the rubble for any survivors. My stepfather's body was buried in a pauper's grave in a cemetery for vile criminals.
