The time had come. After weeks of planning, weeks of preparing, weeks of practicing, the night had come. Arulet looked herself over in the mirror placed in front of her. She had been dressed in a form fitting black dress that reached the floor, a long green and jade patterned cape, lined with fur to accompany it. Her mask was an extravagant mix of green, black, and silver, decorated with pure white feathers, and in her tied up and curled hair was a shining silver tiara. Multiple silver earrings decorated her ears, the light, shining metal offsetting her dark skin and hair. She looked gorgeous.
Ralton soon entered the room, the king wearing a crisp white shirt decorated with gold and violet, a sash of the second two colors being placed over his torso, the fabric containing many a medal. Draped over his shoulder was a violet, flowing cape, edged with golden fabric. Masking his glowing eyes was a white porcelain masked also lined with the shining color. A crown of gold sat atop his head, confirming his identity and his only. Arulet briefly remembered a time when she had once happily smiled upon seeing this outfit donned by the king. He looked powerful, yet elegant. Had she still loved him, she would have kissed him when he entered the room. But she didn't. The woman simply turned her head to the olive skinned man as he approached her and embraced her from behind, his arms wrapping around her waist, His head was placed upon her shoulder and she begrudgingly kissed his cheek. He smiled a bit, chuckling.. "Are you ready, my dear?"
She offered him a light smile. "Of course my darling." She was ready for the revolution to really get under way. Everything was in place. Mirlan had listened to her requests on security and was in full support of the revolution. He had given his second-in-command the night off, and would have him taking place of himself. He had taken up the post at the rear of the castle where the Arteah worshippers, along with Arkiel and Damiel, an ex-spy and a hitman, would all be snuck in. Kizani would be lured into a back room of the castle and that's where they would kill her. When Arkiel ran back and gave the signal, Mirlan would shut off all power in the castle for 5 minutes. In that time, the cultists, who were all accustomed to the dark, would move Kizani into the main room, where everyone would be able to see her, and then run. When the lights went out, it was up to the revolutionaries in the room to get through the panic and make sure that everyone knew this was not just a simple assassination by placing torn pieces of paper with the word "REVOLUTION" written on it. This was the true start of the end of Ralton's reign.
After but a few more minutes, the bells tolled, signaling the soon start to the event. Linking their arms together, the royal couple strode out into the main room where they took their place next to Aeldun, who was dressed in a royal blue suit lined with white gold, and the old king, dressed in plenty of gold and violet. As Ralton greeted those who had arrived, Arulet allowed her eyes to scan the crowd. She could pick out every single one of the revolutionaries. She mentally noted how well dressed they had all come, though she found herself feeling quite sorry for Derulo, the poor child stuck with his stuck up mother for the time. She almost chuckled at the kid's obvious suffering but kept up her elegant, uncaring façade. Her eyes locked with the lime colored ones of the leader of the revolution. Stood beside him was the tall figure of Aurora, who had linked her arm with his. Arulet felt a small pang of...something, she couldn't quite place it. Something inside her though silently wished to be in Aurora's place. Ralton finished his address and the band sprang to life, couples rushing to floor to dance, while others stuck to the sides, discussing happily and taking part in the food.
Arulet found herself giving her husband an almost desperate look and smiled happily when he chuckled and nodded his head. She stepped down from the platform raised above the room and joined the entertained chaos, quickly finding a dance partner in the shy Spaniard named Karnos. She danced with him till she tired and took to the side of the large room, taking a chair. He sat across from her smiling happily. They chatted casually, the usually reserved mercenary making for quite the enjoyable company. She learned he was close friends with a Scottish grim reaper after they had encountered each other in a battle. Karnos had saved the man and won the battle valiantly. The two became brothers-in-arms, both now living in Alurn.
As they conversed, she noticed his gaze occasionally travelling beyond her. She followed his gaze at one opportunity and spotted a beautiful girl in a cobalt dress. Her dark raven hair curled and tumbled down her back, fading into blue towards the end. Her skin was a pale white. She seemed to be bored slightly with her partners. Arulet then glanced back at Karnos and connected the dots. "Do you know her?"
He perked up for a moment and blushed. "Uh y-yeah...I know who she is...we've...never really talked before though..." he muttered. "Her name is Amuneta Lacrinx. She's of German descent and is probably one of the most courageous people I've met..." he rambled. Arulet chuckled at the lovestruck look on his face.
"You should go ask her to dance. She seems bored, go entertain her," the royal urged. His almost immediate reaction almost brought a laugh to her lips. He stuttered unintelligibly for a bit before she reassured him. "You're a perfectly interesting person Karnos. She'll enjoy talking and dancing with you. Now go on," she chuckled. After a moment he got himself together, his tanned skin still tinted a fair bit red, and stood.
"Thank you, your majesty. It's been fun," he said. She nodded, smiling, and shooed him off, watching for a minute as he asked the girl to dance. She accepted and they were off, soon lost in the twirling figures of the dance floor. Arulet smiled as she relaxed in her seat, though her expression soon fell as she remembered tonight's events that had yet to happen. At least some fun would be allowed tonight before the panic set in. She soon returned to the dance floor, choosing to enjoy tonight rather than mope about what was to come.
