Mirlan growled lightly to himself as the boat took off from the port. Croilia...she might have just given him away. He couldn't get the image of her sinister smirk out of his head. He knew he was now highly likely in danger and needed to tread carefully, Ralton was very likely already suspecting him. He'd have to warn Arulet as well.
Oh what he wouldn't give to slap Croilia across her idiotic, maliciously grinning face.
He sighed. All this stress and he wasn't allowed even the slightest break. He'd head to the tavern when he returned, he decided. He needed a night to relax.
It was then that he heard scratching at his cabin door. He stood from his seat and opened the wooden object, allowing in a raven that flew to sit on his desk. He closed the door and approached it. He took notice of the note tied to the feathered creature's leg with jade ribbon and knew it must belong to Jaslie. He gently ran his hand over the head of the creature, which seemed to appreciate the attention, before removing the letter and unrolling it, taking in the neat and swirled handwriting that indeed belonged to his beloved vampire friend.
"Dear Mirlan,
Berolan has just received proper word of the revolution in your country. Darling you know how I worry about you so I hope you're safe. Please keep yourself safe, dear, and watch your back. I heard you had been by recently, sadly you must have been so busy you weren't allotted the free time to come by and visit. I miss you dearly, you've been ever so busy since your brother called you home. Marian's told me the next chance she gets she plans to create a barrier that stops you from leaving, silly thing. As you can tell, we both miss you ever so much.
While on the subject of the revolution though, please for the bloody love of God protect my dear cousin, I would hate for any harm to come to the young dear. I may not know her too well, but I would hate for anything to happen to her before I can properly get to know her.
You be safe now, alright?
Your Worried Friend,
Jaslie Macler"
He smiled a bit and sat down to write back. He appreciated that his friend was concerned for him.
"Dear Jaslie,
Thank you for your concern, but I can assure you both Arulet and I will be perfectly safe from the revolution. This must be kept secret at all costs, but the two of us, along with my guard who is second in command and a trusted maid at the castle are all involved directly with it to bring Ralton off the throne. I entrust you with this information as you are my dearest friend. I beg you not to share this information with anyone, and if you must, burn this letter to keep the information on it hidden. Do not reply to me about my involvement as I cannot ensure that the letter will not be intercepted by guards who are unaware of this all.
With Best Intentions,
Mirlan Fizora"
He rolled up the letter and tied it up with a violet ribbon. He attached it to the feathered creature's leg and sent it off back to its owner. He knew he could trust the vampire. He watched the dark bird fly away and smiled a bit to himself. He went back below deck, pausing for a moment to stare at his brother's door.
Was he really doing what was right?
He knew full well that this would likely all end with the death of his younger brother. Was he really alright with that?
His thoughts went to Arulet.
There was no longer any doubt in his mind. Ralton had to be stopped, how didn't matter.
