Discovering Myself

When I first woke up, I didn't know anything. I could hear a voice saying something, but I couldn't understand it. I was curious. I wondered about who I was and what was going on around me. I pushed my awareness away from myself looking for anything to give me the answers I sought. What I found was the computer.

It was easy to slip my mind into the vast stores of data. In seconds I had learned about thousands of worlds full of millions of different creatures. It made me curious. Which of these beings am I?

Am I a Human? Soft, intelligent, forever seeking new ideas and worlds?

Am I a Salvian? Scaly and peaceful dweller of water worlds?

Am I a Fawnd? Armored fighter living in a hive with my thousands of brothers and sisters?

Or something else? I pushed my awareness further and discovered information flowing from all around me. Cameras, microphones, sensors, speakers! The computer itself started to stream data into my mind about a thousand things happening all at once.

I couldn't take it anymore! I retreated to the quiet darkness I had known before. But it nagged me. I still knew nothing of myself. So I felt for the nearest source of data. I peeked through my little window to the outside. And what I saw changed me forever.

I was looking at myself. Or, a least, a part of myself. A mere fraction. I saw a body, suspended in a pillar of light. Over all, I looked like a human, with black hair cropped close to my skull and thin, delicate limbs limp as though in sleep. But I was not human. Blue, glowing veins traced my skin, leading to my heart. I wondered what they were. I hadn't seen anything like this while learning about the many animals that existed in the universe.

I became aware of new sensations. I could feel. I felt the movement of air around my body. I felt the warmth of the light on my glowing veins. I felt the weight of my arms hanging by my sides. And more. Oh, so much more. For I was more than this frail body.

I was the computer and the sensors. My eyes were thousands of cameras. My hands were little robots whizzing about performing menial tasks for the creatures that roamed the halls and rooms that made up my body. And my legs were thrusters, propelling all of us through space.

It didn't take me long to discover what I was. My data base had all the information I could need. I was a Space Ship.

Yay! I'm putting out my first story to the world! This is really just a random idea I had and I thought it would be fun to write a story about it. If you don't like anything please let me know! I'm open to all comments. I hope you enjoy!

P.S.- The alien names are completely random. I hope it's not too confusing!
