Chapter 7

Nick drove us for an hour until we came to the ocean.

"Are we going swimming?" I asked suddenly weary. I'd been told the

Pacific was cold, not to mention I had brought my swimsuit with me

today, and skinny dipping was not even close to being an option. Nick

grinned, "No we're not swimming. I've got something else planned. I

hope you're up for a little walk." He said as he expertly pulled into

the parking lot of an open beach. The sand was more rocky here than I

thought it would be.

"I don't have a choice do I?" I said.

"You always have a choice Mandy." He said seriously, which made me

think he had another meaning hidden beneath what he'd just said. Nick

parked the car and got out and folded down the seat. I looked over my

shoulder to see what he was getting, but it was covered but a plaid

blanket I'd never seen before.

"What's that?" I asked. You know how they say curiosity killed the

cat? Well let's say that it's a good thing I'm not a cat because I'm

extremely curious about everything.

"You'll find out soon enough. Come on, get out." He said gathering the

stuff in his arms and ducked back out of the car. I got out as he

bumped the door with his hip to close it. We met around the front of

the car, Nick had a huge smile one his face now, "This way." He said

and began to walk off to the left where a mountain met the ocean a

ways in front of us. We walked in silence that way for a few minutes.

As we came upon the meeting of the two I saw there was a hole where a

combination of water, wind, and time created a sort of portal to the

other side. But instead of entering a cave there was a pretty good

sized cove. A beautiful beach of soft white sand went on for about 200

yards until it was met with another outcropping of mountain. There

were big boulders on the far side as well, which if I was ring would

hold a bunch of little tide pools. The water was a deep blue. The beach

was impeccably clean compared to the other side which was public access.

"Oh Nick, it's beautiful." I said, I began to walk forward alone as he

hung back. I stopped for a moment to remove my shoes - which were full

of sand now - the rocks on the other side would have hurt my feet, not

to mention the fact that in California I was a little afraid of what

my feet might find in there. But I could see that no one knew this

part was here. The mountain outcropping was angled in such a way that

you couldn't actually see it unless you were right on it. And it was

small, a perfect size for my height, but Nick had to duck to make it
