I didn't know what to expect.
I had no idea whether Gabby's mum had told Gabby about the text mum sent.
I hoped Gabby knew.
Luckily she did.
I went and took a seat in the English classroom. I chucked my pencil case on the desk next to me, saving it.
It was English.
Earlier that morning, I found Gabby at the school gate.
She asked me if I really went to my uncles.
I said I did. But I was hesitant.
I hated lying to people. But I had to.
If I didn't, then Gabby and Gabby's mum would know that my mum and I both lied.
She asked when I went to Jay's.
I had to think for a second before replying.
I told her that we dropped in to Jay's house on the way to Uncle Joe's place.
But then her face dropped into a hurt expression.
She said 'but you still missed my party.'
I replied 'I know! I was crying because I had to miss it! But I had to go to Uncle Joe's coz his 'to be' wife was going too be there and I had to meet her! I'm so sorry I missed it.'
She looked exceptionally hurt, and I felt sorry for her and for my self. That I missed it, and that she missed me.
Gabby walked off to her locker. She forced a smile at me, and croaked through sadness,
'Save me a seat.'
Normally she saves me a seat. But anyway.
I walked off to get my books.
Then I went to English.
--
The teacher came in.
'Good morning class!' Mr Boxer charmed.
'G'morning Mr B.' The rest if the class moaned.
I was in my own world, wondering where Gabby was. I left the thought, assuming she got caught up talking to a teacher or something.
Mr Boxer was going on about similes and metaphors. He was showing us stupid you tube jingles, with cartoon characters singing about similes and metaphors.
About 20 minutes into the lesson, the door opened.
And Gabby stepped in with red eyes.
'Sorry I'm late Mr B.' Gabby managed between what seemed like tears she was trying to hide.
She dropped her head and walked towards the desk with my pencil case on it.
I snatched my pencil case of the table just as she dropped her load of books on the desk.
