The text was from Gabby.
I touched on my messages app, and Gabby's message popped up.
Gabby: Why did you send me that?
Gabby: And why were you at Jay's? I invited you to my party and you didn't come! Where were you?
First, I read the first message again. 'Why did you send me that?'
I scrolled back up the messages and the message before Gabby's most recent text was a picture from my phone.
The only picture from my phone. The one I took with Jay earlier today.
Then I looked back over the second message she sent me.
Oh no. I completely forgot Gabby's birthday party! It was going to be awesome!
We would've met at her place, and gone down to the park where the Ferris wheel and the rides are often running. Then we would've walked up the hill to the mall, and gone shopping, Gabby was even planning my favourite - ice cream cake! Then we were to go back to Gabby's house and muck around for about and hour. And I was going to stay for a sleep over even, but they had a family gathering after the party.
How could I have forgotten?
My blackberry. It's set to remind me of a whole lot of things.
I wondered what else I had missed? I couldn't check now. My blackberry was dead.
But anyway, Gabby seemed sort of angry.
Deep inside me, I strongly hoped she wouldn't be too fussed, but I knew she would be. I had missed her party to go and hang out at Jay's.
I had no idea how to reply.
I burst into tears.
After about 5 minutes of being a little gloomy, the intercom crackled.
Mum spoke.
'Gabby, are you alright up there? I can hear you crying.'
I got up and leaned against the wall. I pressed the wide button on it and dialled 112.
'Hey mum, I'm ok, just a bit upset and confused.'
'Oh no pumpkin. Do you want to talk?'
'Um, yeah sure thanks mum, could you come up?'
'Yep sure dar'l. I'll be up in a tick.'
I felt like I could hear her smiling. Mum is always a happy person.
In literally about a 'tick' I heard mum coming up the stairs.
