My first day of school is today.
Well, not my first day, but my first day of grade school. I went to Pre-K and Kindergarten.
Daddy always drove me the first few days. He's my favorite parent. Mother isn't as nice, she always puts me in time out.
"Rise and shine, sweetheart. It's your first day today!" Daddy enthusiastically spoke. He pulled the covers off of me and lifted me up into the air, throwing me up and catching me. He topped it off with a kiss to the forehead.
I giggled uncontrollably, "what's for breakfast?"
"Your favorite," he smiled and pulled me close, carrying me down the stairs.
I knew what that meant. Lucky Charms...
He set me down on one of our wooden chairs. I had grown a few inches since last year, but my feet still couldn't reach the wooden pole that spread across the two front chair legs.
I watched as Daddy poured some Lucky Charms into my favorite pink bowl. He also poured some into a plain white bowl, carrying the two bowls to the table. He took a seat next to me.
"Are you excited for your first day?" He poured milk into our bowls.
"My tummy hurts and I feel sick," I honestly said. I didn't want to lie to Daddy. That wouldn't be what a good person does.
"I know, Princess. We are going to get you tested for anxiety disorder soon."
"What is angsty disdorer?"
He laughed, "it's when your thoughts consume your mind to the point where you can't stop thinking about little things, like going to school, for example. It makes you very worried and your tummy hurts a lot."
"What's a consume? I don't want to have that!" I took another bite of my cereal and put the spoon in the bowl.
"You'll understand when you're older, Princess."
"Henry, are you torturing Kami's innocent mind again?" Mother came into the room with Karson and Karrie following close behind her.
"No, dear. Karson, are you excited for your first day of fifth grade? You'll be in the same school as Karrie."
"Yeah, I'm happy Karrie's in fourth grade! I'll get to see her more often," Karson grabbed his own cereal bowl.
The school system is really weird where we live. Pre-K and Kindergarten have their own separate school. Grades one through three have a school. Grades four and five have a school. Grades six through eight have a school, and grades nine through twelve have a school.
Once I finished my cereal, Daddy took care of our bowls and walked me upstairs to get ready for my first day. He brushed my teeth and hair, picked out my clothes, and packed my lunch.
We headed to the car while Karson and Karrie waited for the bus. He opened the back seat door for me and picked me up, placing me in my seat.
-------
"Everything's going to be alright, Kami. There won't be many people here. In fact, everyone here will think you're adorable. After all, I picked out your dress," Daddy rubbed my back and tucked my hair behind my ears.
We were in the school parking lot. There were so many people here, it made me nauseous. He took me out of the car and held my hand, walking me to the main doors.
"Go ahead, I can't come in with you. I wish I could." Daddy kissed me on the temple and I walked into my new school.
