Chapter 23

I was still in my room when I heard some noise. It sounded like the shuffling of a person. I checked the time and saw that it was just 10:30 pm. So I grabbed a dagger that was on the floor and crept down two steps. I laid on my stomach and peaked through the cracks through the handrail that was beside the stairs. I saw that it was Briar and I slightly relaxed. I became tense again when I heard the creak of the door. I saw that Briar quickly hid behind a wall. Which hid her from the view of whoever was entering the shack. Once I was able to see the person passed the door Briar saw it as an opportunity to throw a dagger towards Cats. I quickly intercepted the dagger that was going to nail Cats in the head, with my dagger and they both fell to the ground. Briar quickly peaked passed the wall and looked up towards the stairs and saw me. I stood up and went down the stairs. Once I got down I saw that Briar revealed herself from her hiding place and Cats was looking at the two daggers, looking shocked.

"W-where you going to kill me?" She said scared looking between Briar and me.

"No,"

"Yes," Briar and I said at the same time I looked at Briar and then brought my attention back to Cats.

"Why are you here so early?" I said.

"Well... umm," She said glancing around nervously, "No reason, just that I had nothing to do so I thought why not come here?" She said.

"Well, there are still lots of people that are going to come so you may sit on the couch. I have to discuss something with Briar," I said and started walking out with Briar behind me. We went down the flight of stairs that was going towards the basement.

"You weren't the first person that Abaddon sent," I said unlocking the door in front of me and gestured for her to open the door. She glanced at me. She opened the door and went inside. I saw her body grow rigid before I followed after her. I saw that Flame had moved the body to the far corner of the room. Putting him as far away from her as she can.

"Flame, I reckon you still remember Briar," I said. She glared at Briar.

"Why am I not surprised that you found somebody with more humanity than you?" She said letting out a short laugh.

"What do you mean?" Briars voice became as cold as ice.

"Put down the mask, you aren't fooling anyone," Flame said.

"This is not a mask, I only act like this if I am around insufferable people like you," Briar practically spat out.

"Oh, I am insufferable! I find that shocking to hear since everybody in there was like me and worse," Flame replied. She said smiling evilly.

"Is that Coal's body?" Briar said turning to me. I nodded in response and finally Flame kept quiet.

"I see that I don't have to worry about him anymore or you either," She said looking pointedly at Flame. She swiftly turned her back towards Flame and started walking out the door. I started walking out the door when Flame spoke up again.

"You should be worried because more people will come after you even though Briar turned her back against us. Even though you killed Coal, you will have to face him eventually, even if others don't get to you," She sneered

"I know, and I am ready," I said calmly and turned around walking out the door. I made sure that it was looked before leaving. We both climbed back up the stairs and saw that Cole had come.

"Who are they? And how many people are coming?" Cats asked.

"I will introduce everybody at once and there should be eight other people coming. I will just be upstairs, I need to bring somethings downstairs. You guys may go rest on the couch." I said and went upstairs to my room.
