Finally, it's weekend and I could finally take a breather, a little. I still have house chores to do, of course, but at least it free from school's drama. I don't know which one I rather be; in the house doing house chores or school. Neither of them ease my mind or body.
"Sirena."
My head snapped to look at aunt Julia. She has a smile, creepy one as she said. "Dr Helena's son, Damien Lennington, is looking for you."
I blinked until I realized that we agree to do our project this weekend. I pull the pole net from the pool and set it back into the storeroom before heading back inside. I washed my hand and I could hear aunt Julia and Damien talking at the main hall. I went into my room, change my dirty clothes into a clean long sleeve black t-shirt and dark blue jeans. I grab my bag and jacket before meeting them. The first thing I notice was Damien's shades then his slightly bruised lips.
Aunt Julia smiles at me when she notice me coming. "You study hard now, Sirena. Make us proud, okay?"
I smile, playing along. "Of course, aunt Julia." I said and stood beside Damien. He nods at her with his hand in his pockets. "Have a good day, Mrs. Crawford."
"You too dear." She beamed at Damien sweetly and I follow after Damien, only to notice his slightly odd walking. When we stepped out from the gates, his bike was nowhere in sight.
"Yeah, sorry no bike today." He said and scratch his neck almost in embarrassment. "Do you mind the walks? I promise it's not that far."
I ran my eyes all over him once before answering. "As long as it won't increase your pain, then I'm good." He must be badly wounded by the look on his head. There a bump there and slightly purple too. Did he fight last 2 nights ago? The twins did say that he went there but I didn't expect him to be this wounded.
"I'm fine." He growls and that shut me up and make me pull my reign into a stop. He must have noticed my flinch as he sighs. "I'm sorry. I'm not in the mood to talk about this."
"I can study and work on the project first." I offered timidly because I didn't want him to snap again. He shook his head. "We're doing this together." He said and I didn't argue anymore.
We walk silently, almost awkward as both of us are busy with our thoughts. Yet I didn't like the way he would touch his side now and then as we walk our way to his house. We crossed the playground and as promised, it wasn't that far when Damien walk straight to the small gate. His house is like a freaking mansion and I halt at the entrance, feeling very outcast and yet admiring the architecture and the wide and beautiful green front lawn. The design of the house is modern yet it looks unique and had a touch of antique with the heavy wood at a few sections on the house.
A chuckled. "You're gonna catch a fly there, Sirena."
I check myself and look between him and the house. "It's huge and majestic." And I'm not sure if I worthy enough to be here.
Damien scratch his neck again. "Yeah, I guess. Come on. I'll show you around."
I follow him and the interior is more breathtaking. People might think brown is not a colour for rich people but the Lannington had proved them wrong. With a few touches of silver and gold, this house looks like a museum.
"Wow." I muttered under my breath as I look at glass shelves with antique tools or things.
"That is a collection from the Renaissance era. Our great-grandfather collected them for his private collection but it becomes an obsession instead." A voice said from the polished wooden stairs. I look and meet with Mr Lannington himself.
"It's... I don't know, it's old and unique. I mean! It's beautiful and it's, it's..." I think I lost my books of vocabulary as I look around again and flush. "I don't mean to insult-"
