well, now really when we go back then to falling in love, and say its crazy.
falling.

"steve, who is that?"

both of the blue eyed men look to the stunning woman across the room. her hair in a complex updo, formal gown covering her physique. a dark berry color covers her lips, the men watching as she smiles with her friends.

"that's [y/n]"

bucky takes a deep breath, still admiring. "she's beautiful."

you see, we don't say
"rising into love" there is in it the idea of the fall.

"you're a good man, james." her legs wrap around his bare torso while they bathe, his hands resting on her silk skin.

"not really, no, but you're the only one who understands that."

some people feel like they don't deserve love. they walk away quietly in empty spaces, turn, close the gaps of the path.

"i dont know if im worth all this, [y/n]."

she frowns. "what you did all those years, it wasn't you. you didn't have a choice."

"i know, but i did it."

lots of people are searching for happiness, they're looking for it. they're trying to find it in someone or something else out of themselves. thats a fundamental instinct, happiness is something that you are, and it comes from the way you think.

she holds him closely to her chest, listening carefully as he speaks. "my dreams are the worst i've ever had. images of the winter soldier fold in on each other, i see things i forgot happened. like a door unlocking in my mind, torture, slaughter, and training others in their use. so much horror i wake up vomiting, and dont feel much better afterwards. my bad dreams linger, but i wouldn't expect anything else."

she lifts his head, building intimacy with their faces only mere centimeters apart before speaking words of consolation.

"you know, sometimes i think if you didn't have me, there wouldn't be a single person in the world who really understood you."

sleep on me.
feel the rhythm in my chest, just breathe.
i will stay.
so the lantern in your heart wont fade.
the secrets you tell me, i'll take to my grave.
there's bones in my closet but you hang stuff anyways.
and if you have nightmares, we'll dance on the bed.
i know that you love me even when i lose my head, guillotine.

"do you remember our time together?" she asks the super soldier to her side as they walk through the chill, pumpkin air as crisp, sunburnt leaves crunch beneath their feet.

"i remember everything, [y/n]. you were the one good thing in all of it."

she turns to him, smiling.
"i think i love you, james Buchanan barnes."

the real you is not a puppet which life pushes around, the real deep down you is the whole universe.

"i might have put a bullet in my brain to quiet the ghosts if not for you." he tells her.

she grabs his metal hand, reminding him of its sensitization to touch. their hands clasp together, his grip softer than hers because he's afraid of hurting her, again.

"you're too good to me." he states and she just grins.

"the world would be too, but what the world fails to realise is that you're just a victim with a story. i know your story, they dont."

and they say if we'll only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he'll forget his evil ways and learn to love us.

she didn't want to fight him or hurt him, but he was lost in the moment, his mind in a detrimental state. he doesn't remember their relationship, she does.

she drops all weapons, allowing herself to be seen as a vulnerable target who is no challenge. "im not gonna fight you, you know me."

he tackles her. "no i don't!"

a groan slips past her lips when her body comes in contact with the ground. "this isn't you, james!"

"shut up!"

he raises a fist in the air, preparing to hit her. "you're my mission."

"and you've done it beautifully. im with you 'till the end of the line, remember?"

they say we offer simple answers to complex problems.
well, perhaps there is a simple answer.
not an easy answer, but simple.
