The lake mirrored the sky above, both of them blue and shimmering. A beautiful view for spectators to watch the tournament begin. Harry closed his eyes. The breeze that ran unchecked over the rippled surface blew his tangled, untamable hair from his eyes and brought colour to his usually pale cheeks. Without the distraction of the view he could detect the scent. The moist early summer air was fragranced with the pine trees that circled the lake, growing so close that some had toppled in and others dangled cobra-thick roots into the water. Harry stood upon the wooden surface, the cries of students counting down deafening him.
Three, two, one.
Harry chewed down on the kelp before jumping into the water. He began to sink to the bottom, unstoppable pain spreading through his entire body. But it was lovely, deep down under the water, like being in a different world. The water was very clear, and schools of bright-hued fish and strange sea flowers decorated the sand floor. Soon enough, fins began to sprout from his sides in a fish-like manner. He immediately began to swim without a care, being able to breathe normally. The freedom is as intoxicating as if he were swimming in vodka. He could move in any direction or even just stop and float a while, not even birds can do that. Yet it isn't clear like the liquor, it's blue like a perfect sky. His air bubbles make their way to the surface with every exhale; they are only thing down here in a hurry to leave. Harry could stay all day if the gillyweed were to last so long, but he knew he must hurry. He swam quickly, until he came across students tied to the lake's floor by a chain. They floated above the ground, passed out with violently calm expressions upon their faces. At first, he saw Hermione. Assuming this was his challenge, he leaned over and picked up the sharpest stone he could find. Unfortunately, Viktor Krum bet him on it. With his shark-like appearance, he smirked at Harry before swimming away again. Harry peered over to the merpeople, who nodded. So, Hermione must've not been his challenge. He glanced over to the other prisoners; Fleur's sister was there, but that mustn't be for him. Harry saw Cho Chang, too, but decided that the girl must be for Cedric Diggory.
But, who was the other?
Harry swam closer, noticing the Slytherin robes, blonde hair... His knees suddenly became weak, a goofy grin spreading across his face. He should've known that Dumbledore would've trapped the love of his life. Draco didn't know it yet, but Harry had liked him since second year. It was a little embarrassing, of course, since the blonde had shown obvious hints how much he liked him -- but Harry had acted oblivious the entire time. Potter stares lovingly at the other male, before realising that time was running out. He performed a small breaststroke, hitting the cursed chains until they snapped. Draco began to float freely to the surface of the lake, and Harry swam after him and caught him just before they reached the air. Malfoy immediately snapped awake, gasping for air; having no idea where he was. He clung onto Harry tightly, as though he were a koala. Students cheered for them, but Harry didn't care about that. He cared about Draco being safe. Malfoy then had remembered what this was, and raised a brow.
"You'd care if I was gone?..." Draco asked, wrapping his legs around Harry as the Gryffindor continued to swim towards the shore.
"Of course I would, Draco."
"Pott-- Harry. Thank you." He whispered, they finally made it to land. They both gasped for air, unaware of the position they were in. Draco was straddling Harry, their foreheads pressed against one anothers. Until, Pansy Parkinson threw a towel at her best friend, causing him to fall off. He wrapped it around himself as Harry received one also.
"So..." Potter muttered after a few minutes of silence. "What about us, then?"
"Well, that depends." Draco replied, snuggling into Harry for more warmth.
"Depends on what?"
"If you ask me out." The blonde mumbled, getting annoyed with the towel and casting a heating warm instead. Harry coughed, slightly embarrassed as Draco hummed, wrapping his forgotten towel around Harry. "You don't want frostbite, do you?" Draco was almost acting like he didn't say what he just said.
"Draco?"
"And, since when were we on a first name basis?" Draco asked, his voice sounding far more sweet and considerate than Harry had ever heard it before. Maybe it was the water dripping out of his ears, or maybe he truly was oblivious.
"Ever since I saved you from drowning, I guess." Harry said, tugging on Draco's arm as the blonde finished wrapping both the towels around Harry. Draco sighed, giving him a nod of agreement. Potter inhaled deeply, shutting his eyes for a few seconds before opening them again. He was ready. "Draco, I know this isn't very romantic but--"
"What?" He interrupted, raising a brow to him.
"Let me finish, blondie. Anyway--"
"'Blondie'? Excuse me?" Draco questioned, sounding awfully offended. Yet, he ended up laughing anyway.
"Merlin, Draco, will you go out with me? We've kind of had a crush on you for years now and I was just hoping..."
"Wha-- yes!" They were both still wet, Harry's hair had become one with his face, wetly draped over the bone structure that drove Draco crazy. Harry's expression is serious. Draco wonders if he knows how crazy that drives him, how it makes him want to feel every inch of his skin. At this moment, here in front of several students, they can't. Harry rolls his eyes in that way he does when he's really happy but feeling too macho to show it and they kiss. There is something so heavenly about their kiss, a tender moment that just wouldn't wait. It was that burst of love that was expressed, not caring that the water soaks through to chill their skin.
"Is it too soon to say I'm in love with you?" Harry asks quietly. Draco giggles back at him, giving a nod before kissing him once again. Harry kissed the droplets from Draco's lips, and he felt his lips smile against his. Harry swept Draco's hair aside and kissed him just over the collarbone. He nibbled at Malfoy's ear, and then Draco sank himself into Harry's arms. He hung his fingers on Draco's waistband, dragging him closer. Harry buried his face in the other boy's shoulder curve, his hands flexing around Draco's back.
"No, I feel the same way..."
