"What are you doing?!" Your voice echoing throughout the hallway as Sabo has to essentially drag you back to your bedroom. "We could have gotten away!"

You had wanted to run far from this place whilst you had the chance, taking your heroic blonde with you before Thatch got the permission to kill you both but of course, the feeling wasn't mutual. Sabo letting out a barely audible grunt before yanking you into your room and closing the door behind him.

"Just do as you're told!" The blonde sounds annoyed with you now but his eyes say differently, he can't seem to keep his gaze looking as stoic as he'd like, a worried expression taking over as his hand runs through his hair, a sigh escaping his throat. "If you had done that in the first place, this wouldn't have happened!"

What is it with this guy treating me like a child?!

"You should have asked me if you had questions, nobody else! And you especially shouldn't have exposed that bite at the table!" You're about to argue back but you fall silent when Sabo grips your shoulders, gently pushing you to sit down on the edge of the bed despite his frustration, he still tries to be careful with you.

Since your voice has taken a leaf from your book and ran away, you decide to just try and catch your breath instead, your gaze falling to the floor as you eagerly try to reassure yourself.

It's okay...I'm just going to die...that's just fine!

There's a beautiful dim lighting to the room that's giving you a bittersweet feeling, you'll die in a beautiful place at least and if you listen closely, the crickets outside are so loud that you can faintly hear them.

Now I know that I'm grasping at straws, death is coming and I have nothing better to do but to enjoy the scenery as I wait for it! Great!

"I'm sorry." Sabo finally breaks the silence with a low murmur, his beautiful eyes finding yours as he takes your hands in his, a strange heat emitting from him. You had thought he'd feel cold given the fact that he's a vampire but apparently, you were wrong. "I didn't mean to shout at you, I don't want you to think I'm mad or that I hate you, I-I'm just...it's that you..." He's struggling so much but you decide it's best to wait and let him finish rather than rush him for explanations, no need to get his back up again. "...I care is all."

Yeah, that's obvious by the way you've kept us in this house with your psychotic brothers!

"If you care then tell me the truth!" Your request isn't going at all ignored at least, Sabo's eyes lighting up with silent promise as he stares at you, giving a slight nod to encourage you to continue. "Who's bite is this?" Your index finger instinctively pressing against the holes in your neck, shockingly they don't hurt at all from the contact.

At least they're healing up nicely, I suppose.

"That was Ace...you can't tell anyone though! He'll be punished, severely!" The blonde hesitantly answers, his brows knitting together and you can see the worry in his eyes. His answer honestly peeves you a little but you try your best to keep your irritation inside.

So he should get punished! He fucking snacked on me!!

A sigh leaving your lips as you try to push the thought to the back of your mind, your hands trembling as you consider leaving once again. You want to trust Sabo but he's sure not making it easy for you.

"Do you really trust Thatch?" Your question is soft and barely makes it past your lips, you can't help but ask yourself why Sabo's so hell-bent on staying here whilst his big brother is in just the other room, requesting permission to kill the pair of you.

"Not necessarily..."

Oh, how reassuring!

"But I do trust Marco."

That's worse!

"The suicidal one." You deadpan with an unconvinced glint in your eyes, your brow raised a little as if asking for him to confirm, not that you even need the confirmation, you're fully aware of what Marco's all about. "Yeah, this can't possibly backfire."

Yes, Sabo, I am being a sarcastic asshole! We would have had a better chance in running away!

"Marco inflicts hell upon himself, not his family." Sabo answers your catty tone as he takes a seat beside you on the bed, gently wrapping his arm around your small frame and pulling you against him. You're not sure if he's hypnotizing you or if he's genuinely got a comforting aura but something about his embrace lulls you, much to your surprise. "Please, trust me. I wouldn't have made you stay if I believed you were in danger."

Why do I trust this man so much? He gives me absolutely nothing to go on and yet, I don't doubt him!

"Why do you protect me?" Unfortunately, your question goes unanswered, courtesy of a gentle knock on the bedroom door. Your body immediately tensing as the wood slowly swings open, revealing a very sheepish-looking Thatch.

The real agony is that you can't actually tell what to make of his expression, whether it's a good or bad thing.

The brunette reluctantly entering the room with Marco following in tow, the blonde brother thankfully looking a little more confident as he leans against the wall, watching the scene as it unfolds before him.

"We've talked to pops." Thatch's words are calm and crisp causing Sabo's arm to tighten more around you, his body radiating yours as he tenses a bit. "We've come to a deal." As the brunette explains, his eyes slowly drift to you instead, his brows furrowing a little as he plasters his authoritative frown across his face. "You may stay. Your memories will not be altered at this time."

You can't help the goosebumps that arise along your arms, your hands discreetly gripping at your knees. This reminds you of the times you were scolded as a child by your parents or teachers, a slight twitch in your brow as your rebellious trait tries to convince you to lash out but you know damn well, that's not a wise thing to do right now.

I don't wanna stay here!

"If you want to leave now, you'll be allowed to go unharmed but in that case, I will need to change your memories in order to be sure that our secret...our existence...remains unknown. Do you understand?"

Thatch's words are being aimed directly at your core this time, his hazel eyes glued to yours, impatiently awaiting for any kind of answer to his question. His brow quirking as you nod your head, your understanding probably even throwing him off guard for a moment.

"Yes...I understand."

I don't want to leave Sabo though...

"Good. When your contract with us is over, you'll receive a raise for your discretion but of course, you'll still have your memories altered either way at that point. It'll be harmless and we'll be forever grateful for your service and bravery."

He's speaking to me as if I'm a soldier...

"Thank you for staying and listening to me, miss [F/n]." Is all the brunette finishes with, turning on his heel and abruptly leaving the room, a sense of regret and worry evident all over his face. Marco smirking at you before his lazy eyes trail over to Sabo, he gives you both a small wave before he exits the room also, leaving you and the most handsome brother alone again.

"I told you we could trust Marco!"

Nobody likes a know-it-all, Sabo...
