"Of course! You can start your duties any time during the morning, so long as you don't take advantage of our patience!" Thatch smiles sweetly as he sits on the stool opposite you, leaning across the kitchen counter lazily. "You looked so nervous before...was that all? You should have known that you're an employee here, not a slave! We don't want you to overwork to the point that it makes you sick!"
Damn, he's actually being really kind now...should I trust it?
"I appreciate your understanding." A polite smile on your face as you scan the room, making sure that there's no unfinished work to do in here since your stomach has finally settled. "Next time, I won't stress myself so much before asking you for a favor."
This place is spotless...for a bunch of guys, they're all rather neat.
Taking Thatch's silent nod as the end of conversation, you rise from the stool, making your way to the kitchen door before his soft voice stops you in your tracks.
"Wait, [F/n]. I wanted to tell you..."
Oh shit, I forgot he needs to flame me! That's why he was being nice! THERE'S ALWAYS A CATCH!
"Hm?" A forced and nervous grin practically plastered across your sweating face as you reluctantly turn to face the oldest brother, his arms are folded but he looks more amused than upset with your eagerness to leave.
He's going to torture me! And he's going to love it! He is Ace and Marco's brother after all! They're all evil!
"Luffy's coming home tomorrow...I feel it necessary to warn you."
The...WAIT?! The little boy who murdered the last maid?! Oh, great! How excellent!
"We had planned for Sabo to keep an eye on you originally," Your face flushes at the very mention of the blonde's name and the fact that he's easily the most trusted out of the brothers makes you feel rather privileged. But it's short-lived, as always. "However, we've recently discovered that he may not be up to the task so, you'll be under Marco's protection instead."
Oh great, the troll! What could possibly go wrong?!
Whatever else Thatch tells you goes into one ear and straight out of the other, your thoughts focused on the conversation that you had overheard, about the crush that Sabo may or may not have on you. You have to wonder if the blonde told them that he couldn't look after you or whether the older brothers guessed it themselves, they have got a sixth sense after all.
I'm sure Thatch has some kind of mind-reading powers if he can reanimate memories!
"Is this a problem?" The brunette's voice finally snapping you out of your pondering as he leans forward to gently rest a hand on your forearm, apparently at some point in the conversation he had gotten up and moved toward you without you even realizing it. "I assure you, we won't let any harm come your way. And if pops is bringing him home then believe me, he's made a lot of progress."
Oh, I'm sure! Just like Ace!
Your anxiety is certainly getting the best of you now, your brows furrowing in frustration as the worst case scenarios begin to play out on a loop in your head, making you all the more nervous.
What if Marco wants some entertainment and feeds me to his damn brother for it? The guy used to be an alcoholic, who's to say that he won't try to drink from me himself?! Nope! Not happening!
"I'd feel comfier with Sabo!" The words practically throw themselves out of your mouth, completely stunning Thatch in the progress as your body trembles weakly under the brunette's hazel gaze.
Why is it that every time I speak to Thatch, I end up being a total inconvenience to him?!
His hand still hasn't left your forearm though, the touch is still as soft and supportive as before and he forces his shocked expression back, a small and curious smile spreading across his lips instead. "May I ask why that is?"
And it's in this moment that you're at a loss for words - you can hardly tell him that you think Marco's a psychopath, that's rather offensive after all, even for vampires. "It's just..." You're beginning to lose the heart to have this argument, you've just gotten back in Thatch's good books after almost being murdered by him, you have to ask yourself whether it's really the right time to test his patience. "...Am I really safe here?"
It's okay! I'll still have access to Sabo, if all else fails! He's protective, I'll be fine!
You notice the flicker of hesitation in Thatch's eyes, he clearly doesn't want to lie but he also doesn't seem to want to tell the truth either, a sigh escaping his lips as his grip on you tightens slightly. "We'll try to make sure you are. I promise."
That's not at all reassuring!
"R-Right...Thanks, Thatch..."
"I'm sorry that I'm throwing this on you so soon after our...differences. I'll understand if you wish to quit but know that our offer still stands, you'll get a raise when the contract ends after the trouble you've been put through here."
There he goes again, waving the damned money above my head!
"Yeah, thanks."
