If there's one person on the planet Sirius Black loves more than himself, and possibly more than James Potter, it was Lily Evans.
It was Lily Evans, because she was an outcast, like him. Everyone expected less of her as they did him. And the redhead knew how to listen more than anyone else. She understood him and when she didn't, she didn't pretend to.
"You know, Evans," Sirius mused one day as they lay across a field by the Black Lake, after its gone dark and there are assortments of constellations littering the sky. Lily tilts her head towards him in curiosity, while he keeps his dark eyes trained on the sky. "I might be platonically in love with you."
This, of course, elicited a snort from Lily.
"I might be platonically in love with you, too, Snuffles."
And they didn't have to tell anyone, because everyone knew.
