October 4th 1994.

Minerva finished her classes for the day and walked down the corridors with a skip and a jump in her walk. Albus always planned a nice surprise for her birthday, wether it be a nice dinner, a trip up to their cabin in Canada, or even a trip to the muggle world to do something totally crazy. She approached her chambers and smiled to herself pushing open the door expecting Albus to rush toward her and flood her with affection and confetti and cake.

As she pushed the door open, the room was bare, and dark like she left it this morning. She furrowed her brow and slightly frowned stepping in closing the door behind her. As she emerged into her chambers she peered into the dining room, a bouquet of white roses sat perfectly on the dark oak table with a letter leaning up against the crystal vase the flowers were set in with her name written on it. Minerva recognized the writing straight away as Albus', her smile returned back to her face as she leaned over too smell the roses. She then reached for the letter wasting no time tearing it open.

Tabby,

I hope you enjoy the roses, I searched many places just to find them! I know how they are your favorite. Happy Birthday my love, I know you are used to my rather obnoxious surprises every year, but unfortunately I have been called in by the Ministry on urgent duty. I won't be back until tomorrow afternoon, I am so sorry.

Love,

Al.

Minerva read over the letter and just stared at the words, the one person who she had been waiting too see all day was gone and she is left to celebrate on her own. She folded the letter back up and laid it down on the table next too the roses letting out a deep sigh. She looked around the room trying to find something to distract herself, her eyes landed on a full bottle of scotch sat on a shelf in the corner of the dining room. She hadn't drank since she was about 30, deciding to give it up after running around the corridors while Albus chased her, their relationship nearly being figured out. She pondered on the thought for a minute then smiled nodding her head.

"Bugger it..." she hissed under her breath walking towards the shelf reaching for the bottle. She pulled out the cork and placed the bottle too her lips taking a large swig. And her night began...

Albus scrambled around singing papers, firing people who have failed too do their duties, and revising laws that needed too be passed. He was panicking, and stressed out, and overthinking everything. He desperately needed Minerva to tell him everything was okay and walk him through everything slowly so that he could calm down. He hoped she was okay, he hated that he couldn't be there to celebrate her birthday and desperately wanted to tell the Ministry to bugger off and spend the whole night with her but he knew it would be impossible. There were sneakier ways too be-rid of the Ministry, luckily he had finished everything that needed to be done and he could head back too Hogwarts.

"IF YOU CAN'T FIND A PARTNER USE A WOODEN CHAIR LETS ROCK!!" Minerva sang along as she twisted around to the song scotch in hand. She danced around her chambers as the loud music floated through the atmosphere, as the song came to a finish Minerva plopped down on the couch taking a large swig from the bottle.

"59... Jesus I'm old..." She hissed taking another swig. "But damn thats good scotch.." She said to herself chucking a little. Yours by the Flamingos switched on echoing through the room, it was the song Albus and her danced too at their wedding. Ever since they have deemed it 'their' song and it meant a great deal to her, every time it came on they would dance to it. She felt tears start to well in her eyes as the realization that Albus wasn't there for her birthday and she was alone saddened her deeply. She got up and switched the song immediately Dance on Little Girl by Paul Anka switched on and she smiled starting too dance again. She was so distracted she didn't see or hear Albus come in, he stood at the doorway watching her sway too the music he smiled, then saw her raise a bottle of scotch to her lips and take a large swig. His eyes widened and he quickly rushed in.

"Minerva!" He gasped. She stopped dancing and turned too look at him.

"Ahhh... you decided to show!" she slurred sipping her alcohol continuing to dance. Albus sighed and lowered his head knowing how much he had hurt her.

"Minnie you know I would have been here if I could have." He said trying to hug her, she pushed him away and took a sip of scotch.

"I love scotch, scotty, scot scotch..." she sang spinning in a slow circle. Albus turned down the music and looked over too Minerva sighing. He walked toward her and reached for the bottle in her hand. She had nearly topped it off, and an angry Scottish woman was trouble enough never mind a drunk one. He snatched the bottle from her hands and put it on the coffee table.

"Come on! That's my fun!" She said in a huff crossing her arms over her chest plopping down on the couch. Albus shook his head and sat down beside her, she refused too look at him.

"Tabby... are you mad at me?" He asked, Minerva slowly turned her head to look at him. She started too giggle and rolled her eyes

"I just like scootchhh, scotty scotch..." She sang leaning her head on his shoulder, Albus knew he couldn't have a serious conversation with his intoxicated wife so he would leave it until morning. "I love you Albus... so so so so soooo much... but you don't loveeeee me... you left me alone" She slurred looking up at him. Albus tried holding back his tears and shook his head.

"Its time for you to go to bed..." He said standing up.

"No... I want my scotch." She said laying down vertically. Albus shook his head and waisted no time sliding his arms under her body and hoisting her up bridal style. "ALBUS!" She screeched gripping onto his robes as he carried her towards her bedroom.

"Your beard is soooo longgg..." She said twirling her fingers through his hair staring with wonder as if she had never seen his beard before. Albus chuckled as he gently laid her down on her bed. He tried to stand up but Minerva had maintained her tight grip on his robes.

"Don't leave me... not again." She said looking desperately up into his eyes. Albus furrowed his brow and nodded his head, he truly hated himself for making her feel so upset.

"Scoot over then..." He said too her, she slowly released her death grip on his robes and moved over creating enough room for him to lay beside her. He laid down and turned onto his side looking Minerva in the eyes, he brought his hand up to her face and softly caressed her cheek. She closed her eyes and subconsciously leaned into his touch, Albus slightly grinned.

"Minerva, I am so so sorry for not being here... I wish I could tell the Ministry too bugger off but then I would lose my job and I don't want you here alone... I hate myself for leaving you..." Albus apologized sincerely moving his hand from her face to rest on her hip. Minerva smiled and shifted closer too him, she lifted her chin and pressed a kiss too his cheek.

"Its okay... I still love you..." she said making him chuckle pulling her closer too him.

"That's reassuring..." he said and Minerva let out a little giggle. "I love you so so much Minnie... Happy Birthday..." He said pressing a kiss to her lips.

"Thank you." She said before closing her eyes again. "Goodnight Al..." She said letting out a deep sigh.

"Goodnight Tabby..."
