I tried fixing Thomas's tie so we can go to church. I can't help but think at times like this, this is where our father is supposed to fix Thomas's tie and show him how to do it. I let out a sigh.
It finally looked right to my eyes. "Okay" I look at his eyes and smiled. "you look so handsome," I said squeezing his cheeks.
"eww," He said while smacking my hand away from his face. I gave a little laugh from his reaction.
"Ruby!?" My mom yelled.
"Yes, Momma" I answered.
"Someone wants to speak to you on the phone" She yelled from the kitchen.
I rolled my eyes while smiling. Must have been Pam again.
I went to the kitchen to answer the phone my mom handed to me. "Hello?" I asked.
"Ruby?"
I knew that voice, it definitely wasn't Pam. It was Dave, I remembered I wrote down my phone number on a piece of paper when Dave answered his door yesterday, that was a bad decision.
I was speechless and breathless, why couldn't he just forget about me?
"Ruby I want to see you and hear your voice again, I can't let you go please."
"Bye Dave" I hung up the phone.
I felt so guilty but I knew I was doing the right thing. I need him out of my head.
"Ruby come on, we're leaving." My mom yelled.
I walked out of the door and started walking wit my family to the church. "Ruby, who was that on the phone cuz it didn't sound like Pamela?" My momma asked.
"Nobody important, Momma" I replied with a small sigh. She was nosy as always but I still love her dearly.
By the look of her face, it seemed like she still wasn't convince but she let go of the conversation.
****************
Church was over. Pamela came up to me in a beautiful dress as always. "Hey, Ruby!" She greeted me.
"Hey Pam" I replied.
"Hello, Mrs. Noels, hey Thomas!" Pamela greeted them.
Thomas waved hello with a smile. "Hello, Pamela, How you doing?" My mom asked.
"I'm doing well, thank you for asking"
"and your sisters?" my momma asked.
"They're doing great, Jane just got engaged" Pam replied.
"Tell her I said Congratulations" Momma said with cheer.
"I will" Pam smiles.
"Ruby, I'm gonna go home. Thomas and I are really tired." Momma stated.
"Okay bye now" I said. Pam says bye as well and they start walking home.
"What's up with you?, Ruby. You look a little down today." Pam asks.
I thought I was good at hiding my feelings but I guess I was wrong. "I don't know, I guess I'm just pretty tired" I lied.
"Tired? but you had a whole week off from work? speaking of work, you gonna come to the salon tomorrow?"
"yes" I answered.
"yay!!! I've been so lonely without you, girl. I'll meet you tomorrow at the bus stop, okay?"
"okay" I replied. We said our goodbyes and she left.
I began to walk to my house. The sun was almost going down so it gave a glowing orange-pink sunset in the sky which looked beautiful.
