You enter the food court through a set of double oak doors which you think is a bit fancy for a research ship, but then again you guess that they probably live on this ship or work on it for long periods of time so comfort shouldn't be disregarded. As you walk past the other crew members you see all sorts of, well, aliens but not one looks at you or one another with a face of bitterness. This makes you feel welcomed and in a sense secure.
" Whatchya doin' ", comes the captains voice right next to your ear.
" Wahh!", you exclaim, " don't scare me like that! You almost gave me a heart attack. "
" Come on", he chuckles leading you to an empty table. Seconds later a waiter appears at your side holding a tray with two plates of blue sludge pulsing green light from its center.
"Eeuuhh..."
"Mmmmhhhh, Dynastanion delicacy." , he points out. ". Try it, it tastes better than it looks."
"Uuhh, okay...."
You dip your spoon into the foreign mesh with it hovering just inches from your mouth and then
BOOOOOM!!!!
The whole ship rattles violently, plates, glasses, silverware flying off tables.
" What's going on!?", you shout to the captain.
"I..., oohh..."
" What,..?"
And then you see it. Where there used to be a vast piece of space and stars out of the window, now poised an enormous battleship two hundred times the size of the tiny research cruiser you found yourself on. And with each blow the giant cannon made, the more the little space cruiser would shake. And then, all of a sudden KABOOM!!!!
To the left a ship trying to escape the onslaught was blasted to pieces by a side-ballista.
"There goes the trash shuttle you almost decided to board..."
" Wait seriously, if I hadn't chosen to stay I would've been..."
But there was nothing left to say.
" You stay here, I have to get to the bridge and get us out of here, Sparrow, stay with the kid."
"Yes sir!", replied the officer.
And with that he disappeared through the set of double doors.
You turn back to the window and what you see is sickening. Cannons pound against ships relentlessly, but only few have means to fight back whilst the rest can only sit there hoping their shields won't give way and the enemy finally gives up, but by the tone of urgency in the captains voice, it didn't seem like they were going to give up. If there was one thing for sure, they weren't here to make friends, they were here to kill.
