As we've seen on the previous chapter David strengthened the city of Jerusalem with its walls and also built his own house establishing his kingdom. But there was still something missing, something God revealed him:
The "House" of the Lord.
David's heart started to burn with the desire to build a "house" for the Lord and even though he did not carry it out (God gave him the designs and the building plans, but Salomon finished the work according to God's will.) He lived and spoke about it as if it was a reality for him.
He saw the "house" in spirit; enjoyed it and tasted it leading the people in that same mindset.
So we can say that Zion consists of three essential elements:
1- Kingdom
2- House
3- Jerusalem
"They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion... Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."
Psalm 84:7, 10 NIV
➡When Zion is present everything flows according to God's will.
➡When there's no Zion there's wailing, pain and desperation.
If one of the elements is absent Zion is not complete.
If the house is absent, even if the kingdom and Jerusalem are present there's no Zion.
If Jerusalem is present but the House and the kingdom aren't then you just have the wailing wall, like Israel today.
When Zion is present:
- God does wonders among his people
- There's coverage
- States victory over death
- God's glory is present
- Marks the times
- Gives meaning to Jerusalem
- There's joy
- There's revelation
So now you might think: How does this apply to me today?
Let me tell you...
As Christians our duty is to bless Jerusalem (The physical location where we get together), love our brothers and sisters, live life as Church, body of Christ, (That is the House of the Lord) and submit to God's kingdom.
