(PSA I didn't come up w/ the dialogue between Ikora and Zavala, and Uldren and Petra. Those are from the cutscenes linked at the bottom. Also, this fic contains actual spoilers to Forsaken, and not just the trailer so Don't read this unless you've finished the DLC, or you're okay with the Spoilers.)
I don't believe it. No. This can't, this CAN'T be happening.
I screamed as I watched his lifeless body hit the floor.
"CAYDE!" I screamed. Uldren looked at me over his shoulder, like I was the scum of the earth. I let out a barbaric war-cry and shot blindly at him. I missed every time. He simply shot me in the stomach and fled. I fell to my knees as my ghost healed me.
"Cayde." I croaked out as I crawled to his side. He coughed
"Maybe this was a-a bad idea." He struggled to say as life escaped him.
"Shhhh, if you conserve your energy, we can get you to the tower! We can get someone to fix you!" I said as tears leaked from my eyes. I didn't even believe the bullshit coming out of my mouth.
"No. Everyone's gotta go at some point right?" He chuckled. My tears fell faster than I could wipe away.
"You have a beautiful voice y/n. I've never heard it." He said so seriously. His speech was slurred and sloppy.
"I love you Cayde. I'm sorry it took me this long to tell you. That it took you... In this situation to make me speak up." I choked out.
"I love you too." He said with puppy dog eyes as he handed me a playing card slowly.
"This belongs to you now."
"CAYDE-" I screamed as I shook his lifeless body. I pressed my ear to his chest. His heartbeat was faint and slow; until it stopped altogether.
I let out a strangled cry until I pressed the card to my heart.
"Say hi to Ace for me," I whispered as Petra showed up. She dropped to her knees and mumbled.
"We should've been there," Ikora said sullenly
"This is not your fault. This... Is on the head of Uldren Sov. But if he thinks what he's done is the end, it's not. It's the beginning. We're going to fight him. Do you hear me? All of us. Every titan. Every warlock. Every hunter. We will take the reef by storm! And then we'll mount the head of that son of a bitch on his precious throne. For our fireteam. For Cayde-"
"No," Zavala interjected.
"What did you say?" Ikora asked, with the heat of the moment blazing in her eyes and flowing through her veins.
"We are not an army," Zavala said lifelessly," We are not conquerors. We are Guardians."
"We need to keep our eyes here. On our home. On our people. The Traveler," He paused, walking towards Ikora," Ther Reef was lost the moment it lost it's Queen... So if a Sov wants a stretch of lifeless rocks, let him have it-"
"This is Cayde we're talking about," Ikora interjected," For us to do nothing... Nothing! is... is-"
"Say it." He goaded her
"...Cowardice."
He looked at her threateningly and walked on the other side of his casket.
"I refuse to bury any more friends." He finally said, laying a hand on Cayde's chest; where his heart used to beat. He dwelled on the intricacies of the covering.
"You won't have to," I finally spoke up. Their heads slowly moved to look at me with sullen eyes, as if I dared open my mouth.
"Uldren Sov," I spat the name out," Is mine," I said as I defiantly walked out of the room.
His name was a curse itself. It begged to be said and haunted the unlucky soul who said it. He was the lowest life form to ever grace this solar system, and the most deserving to ever leave.
The gun lay on the floor. Rusted and dirty, defiled by Uldren's undeserving hands. I gazed at it as I picked up Cayde's beloved gun. I held it and, spun it in my hand. Something about it just felt... Correct.
I strolled over to Uldren. This is the man that killed Cayde? A pathetic, lowly, coward like him? He deserved to die. He crawled and struggled on the floor as I reached him. He chucked in a deep, empty voice. He had nothing to live for. I pointed the Ace at him and aimed my sights in the center of his forehead.
"Congratulations," he struggled, "You have my undivided attention." he spat as if I wasn't worthy of his words.
"Now where's my sister?"
"She's not here Uldren," Petra said as she loomed over him with her drawn gun.
"And if she was." She paused," This would be a whole lot easier."
He fell back to his elbow and sighed," So... This is to be a reckoning-"
"Wait! ," My ghost interrupted," Not like this. Look at him- he's finished. Even with everything he's done we can't just-"
"YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE'S DONE!" Petra angrily shouted as she gripped her gun with both hands.
"If Cayde was here." She said trying to persuade you," If he was here I KNOW what he'd do. Guardian... Do you?" She spat.
"Yes." Uldren cockily said," What would the notorious Cayde-6 do?" He asked mockingly.
"You have his gun. Seems you get the last word." He goaded as he tried to get up, but to no avail.
"Everything I did... EVERYTHING I DID I DID FOR HER!" He shouted.
"Funny. The line between light and dark is so very thin," He said as an epiphany.
"Do you know which side you're on?" I lowered my gun. This man wanted to die. His sister and everyone he loved was dead. He had nothing to live for. Petra stared at me as I thought.
I lifted my gun and looked Uldren right in the eyes.
"Say hi to your sister for me."
A resounding gunshot echoed throughout the chamber.
I would've been lying if I said I didn't enjoy it. He got what was coming to him. But his last words haunted me. The line between light and dark used to be recognizable. There was a clear way of knowing what was right... And what was wrong. But now it's muddled and murky and riddled with holes. I hate to say this, but he was right.
"Hey Cayde," I said as I slowly made my way to his casket," He's dead. He's in the ground. I thought about you, and that card you gave me. The Queen of hearts," I chuckled," I actually found the whole deck in one of your stashes." I said as I laid the gun on his casket.
"Too soon," I choked out, allowing tears to flow fast, and free," It was too soon for you. I miss you and I want your bad jokes, and-and your relentless banter back." I cried.
"Come back to me Cayde," I said to a lifeless body in a casket.
There was nothing I could say, nothing I could do. He's gone. And the Vanguard is shattered. Nothing would ever be the same. No matter how I try, and how I plead with the Traveler, nothing will ever go back to normal.
Funny, the line between light and dark is so, very thin.

(Those are the different cutscenes that Cayde's memorial and Uldren's death were in)
(Also you can't tell me that Ikora's little speech wasn't an amazing, rally the troops, eff Uldren moment. Ikora for president 2020)
(Fun fact the first time I saw the Forsaken title card, I read it as "Destiny 2: Foreskin")
