Here's the thing: Wallace thought that hanging out with Bella was only supposed to be a one time thing, a civic duty if you will, but instead, it had turned somewhat into a pattern.
Because, despite his best intentions, Wallace was once again in the Swan home. His shoes kicked off by the entryway of the house, his socks sliding faintly onto the hardwood flooring of the kitchen tile. His hand reaching into the fridge to grab Bella's requested apple juice and a bottle of water for himself.
He tried to think back to what events had occurred since the morning that had driven him to watching The X Files with Bella Swan after school and could only remember the voice of Dawson asking him if he was busy after school and Wallace catching sight of Bella over the cafeteria and instantly replying with a swift, "I have homework" before making his way over to the brunette's direction.
Where that homework was now, Wallace didn't know. Nor did it seem important.
Once he walked back into the living room, he found Bella with the soles of her feet touching the edge of the coffee table before her, her fingers working deftly with something in her hand. Dark flares of hair covered her face from view, but just slightly could Wallace see the slope of her pale nose.
"They catch him yet?" Wallace asked, watching as the brunette startled and she instantly lifted her head to look at him, her bottom lip catching between her teeth.
"What?" Bella asked, voice wispy as she tried to understand what he was talking about.
"The show," Wallace spoke, moving forwards to give Bella the apple juice she had requested. He then motioned towards the T.V. with his water bottle and sat down on the couch away from Bella, their legs not even remotely close to touching.
"I-um, yeah I think so," Bella fumbled for words, and when she noticed as such, a rosy blush reddened the apples of her cheeks. Then, she awkwardly gave him a closed mouth smile, before placing her hands aimlessly in her lap with a shrug.
Wallace was tempted to just leave it at that, but something about the way Bella acted made him curious, so he instantly perked up. "Do you -- uh, I guess, want to talk about it?"
"It?" Bella questioned, turning only slightly towards him as if afraid to stare straight at him.
"The it being the reason why you were once one-half of Forks' it-couple and now you aren't," Wallace decided that ripping off the Band-Aid was the best course of action. There was no beating around the bush for him.
Bella's flinch, however, did make Wallace's chest twinge. But she recovered herself well, swallowing thickly like she had just taken a sip of the untouched apple juice she had moved towards the coffee table before her.
"Edward...he and his family move a lot," Bella stated, and Wallace didn't comment on how she stumbled over the male's name like she was being tortured. "It was just his time to leave and he didn't think we should continue...um, continue our relationship long distance."
"Tough break," Wallace muttered, taking a sip of his water awkwardly. He wasn't sure how to deal with heartbroken girls, mostly because Kinney never let any male close enough in order for her to date them, much less fall in love with them. "If it helps, he always seemed off to me. Like he was trying to hide something."
This time, Bella's eyes did flicker towards his own instantly. "Hiding something?"
"Yeah," Wallace replied, and he bit the skin of his bottom lip before considering his next words. "His family didn't ever really make sense. Am I sounding crazy? I think I am a little bit."
