I slam my locker shut after putting my history book in my backpack and the noise echoes through the empty school hallway. As I'm walking out, I can't help but notice how eerie the building feels without students hurrying to class, gossiping with their friends, or trying to make out without being caught by teachers.

The chilly autumn air hits me as I open the front door to the building and I realize I probably should've worn a jacket instead of just a sweater today, but I'll warm up as I walk.

I can see my breath in front of me as I start heading home, turning away from the school onto the same deserted road I've been walking home on since freshman year. I can hear Sophie's soccer practice going on but the sound fades as I keep moving.

By now it's almost 4:00 and the grey clouds are making it seem darker than normal. I pick up my pace, hoping to just get home so I can relax tonight.

I'm making a list in my head of all the things I need to do tonight before Soph comes to pick me up. We'd agreed that I'd stay at her house tonight so we could get ready for the party together tomorrow. I only take about an hour, but she likes to take her time and it takes her most of the day to get ready for a party like this.

I've decided that tonight I just need to clean up the house a little and maybe try to get some homework done. Maybe also take a nap, seeing as I won't get much sleep tonight with Sophie.

Before long I see headlights coming up the street in front of me. That's odd. I've walked home plenty of times these last few years (in warmer weather, of course) and never once seen a car on this street.

I don't think much of it and keep my head down, still walking. I've only got about ten more minutes until I'm home anyways.

Just a few seconds after the car passes, I hear a noise only to turn around and see a car behind me now.

It's the same car.

I pick up my pace even more, wishing I'd stayed at the school to wait for Sophia's soccer practice.

As I keep walking, I look over my shoulder one more time and of course the car is a huge black SUV. Nobody, not one single person in this small town has a black SUV like that.

It's getting closer and eventually pulls to a stop a few feet ahead of me.

Maybe they're lost and just need directions. Why else would anyone want to be in this place?

As I'm approaching the parked car, a door opens on the other side and a man steps out. When he finally comes around the front of the SUV and reveals himself, I'm met with an unforgettable pair of piercing green eyes. He's wearing a leather jacket and a black t-shirt, but I can see tattoos peeking out the top of his neckline and all the way down on his hands. I also notice a small black lip ring, but nothing stands out more than his eyes.

"Layla Marie Summers, you need to come with me."

I made a mental note of the strange man's thick English accent, but more importantly wondered how the hell does he know my name?

I decide that I'm not going to be like one of those idiots everyone yells at in horror movies, so I drop my backpack and sprint off to the left into the forest.

Of course the man is following me, I don't know what else I expected. He's obviously looking for me and I don't get the vibe that he's going to give up very easily.

I swerve between trees in the woods, trying to come up with a plan for how I'm going to get out of this.

My heart and mind are racing as I try hiding behind trees and bushes, but I hear footsteps coming towards me and I can't stay in one place for too long. He'll definitely catch me then.

I could climb a tree.

"You can't climb, idiot" my subconscious tells me.

The man is hot on my heels and I'm praying I don't trip as I begin to realize there's no way I'm going to be able to outrun him. I'm already running out of breath, but I keep pushing myself through the forest, the small amount of daylight lessening as I submerge deeper into the trees.

"Layla!" He calls after me, and I can't get over the fact that he knows my name. I've never seen this man before.

As I'm trying to think up something, anything else I could possibly do to escape this situation, a large hand firmly grabs my arm and holds me in place while I let out an ear-piercing scream.

Instantly, his other hand is clamped over my mouth and I'm being dragged back out of the forest. Kicking and screaming, I try my best to escape his grasp, but this guy is strong and definitely not letting me go if he can help it. No matter how hard my body thrashes against him, nothing will help me escape his firm grasp.

Apparently I manage to at least inconvenience him a little bit though, seeing as he eventually just picks me up off the ground altogether to carry me back.

Not giving up, I keep kicking with as much force as possible. All I can see is the man's back, so I can only hope that I have some effect. Legs flailing and arms pounding as hard as I can against his back, I feel him slowing down and crane my neck to look up at where I am.

We're close to his car and I can feel deep down that this is it for me. Once we finally reach the SUV, he throws me down off his shoulder and pins me up against the massive car, his lean body pressed right up against mine. He clamps his hand over my mouth right away and I try to look anywhere but at the terrifying man.

Soon enough, he leans in, only centimeters away from my face, and I have no choice but to gaze into his dark green eyes. Suddenly the air around me doesn't feel as cold as it did just a few minutes ago.

"If I take my hand off of your mouth, are you going to scream?" He growls in the most intimidating tone I've ever heard.

I shake my head frantically, realizing for the first time that I'm crying hysterically. I don't have to look down to know that my tears are probably all over his hand.

His eyes burn into mine for a few seconds before he slowly takes his hand off of my mouth, still keeping me pinned tight against the car.

"W-Why are you doing this?" I choke through my tears.

"Wouldn't you like to know," he smirks at me. "I'd love to stay and chat, but we have a plane to catch."

"A plane to where? Where are you taking me?" I sob.

"Somewhere far enough that I need a plane to get there, and that's all you need to know."

His voice is cold, his eyes are cold, everything about this man seems rigid and closed off. I don't understand what he could possibly want from me.

"Please don't do this," I cry hysterically, even harder than before if that's possible. "I just want to go home. I won't tell anyone I ever saw you."

"Damn right you won't tell anyone," he chuckles cruelly, leaning in so his lips brush against my ear and I can smell his minty breath. "You're coming with me."
