hi friends, welcome to part 839289391 of me explaining why I took so long to update. I know I've kept you waiting forever but my summer camp asked me to stay extra time because I was such a good counselor in training woohoo. I've been back for a little bit though and I've had the worst writer's block ever so I had to put Heroin on the back burner and free my mind for the last little bit of summer. thanks for being patient. thanks for still being here. thanks for reading my book and making it this far. ilysm

"I told you, we're not waiting. Get the stuff ready now," I see Harry seethe over the phone as I enter the kitchen. "I'll be there in an hour and I expect you all ready to take those motherfuckers out."

As soon as the words leave his mouth, he hangs up angrily, slamming his phone on the counter in front of him.

I watch Harry from behind for a second, and it doesn't take me long to see how much of a mess he looks. His shoulders and back are so tense they look like they're about to explode. His curly hair is sticking all over the place, not looking quite as perfect as usual.

Without thinking, I prod over to him and place my hands gently on his shoulders.

"Layla, what are you-"

"Shh," I cut him off, leaning over to whisper into his ear. "You need to relax."

"The only thing I need is to go the fuck to work," he argues, but I expected that.

When Harry tries to get up and fight me off, I fight him back for the first time ever. "Sit," I demand, moving my hands to his chest when he turns around.

He sighs, looking down at me due to our height difference. "You aren't giving up this time, are you?"

I shake my head.

To my surprise, Harry sits back down onto the barstool in the kitchen, this time facing me.

I spin him back around slowly and put my hands back on his shoulders, beginning to lightly massage them. After a few awkward seconds, he finally starts to relax into my touch, shoulders dropping.

"Why are you so stressed out?" I ask him.

"Work," He answers shortly.

"What about work?" I push him to tell me more as my hands glide over his defined muscles.

"I got intel that Corruption was planning to attack one of our most important bases."

"And why is that stressful for you?" I ask, beginning to feel like I'm speaking to a child.

"Usually it's not. But I'm so fucking sick of waiting around and playing defense when shit like this happens. I had to order everyone to get ready for a major attack on them in less than twelve hours. I've been on phone calls non-stop trying to work everything out. This has to be a statement," Harry finally opens up to me about what's going on in his life.

"Are your men good at their jobs?" I ask, apparently striking a nerve with Harry because he breaks out of my touch and spins his chair around as quick as lighting.

"Of course they are. How could you even ask that? My men are the best in the fucking business and the fact that you would even question that shows just how fucking naïve you are," He fumes.

"Exactly," I smile.

Harry's angry face falls to a look of confusion. "What do you mean 'exactly'? And why are you smiling like that?"

"Your men are 'the fucking best in the business' as you said," I start to explain using air quotes with my fingers. "They know what they're doing. So trust them and let them do their jobs. Everything will be ready when you get there."

"I like it when you curse. It's hot," Harry smirks, pulling me closer to him.

"Don't get used to it. I was only quoting you," I glare at him playfully, taking another step forward to close the distance between us almost completely.

"Harry you're so fucking hot!" Harry says dramatically. "Quote that."

"Stop it!" I laugh at him a little bit. "There's no way I'm saying that."

Suddenly, he lifts me up and sits me back down on his lap. He smiles down at me, dimples popping out wildly. And as true as his statement might be, I would never give him the satisfaction of saying it out loud.

"How about now?" He smirks.

"How about never?" I shoot back. "Let me down!"

"Hmm," he pretends to think about it. "How about never?"

"You're good," I glare.

We continue on for a few more minutes, shooting witty comments back and forth until I find my lips only centimeters away from his. We both fall quiet.

Harry raises a hand up and slowly tucks my hair behind my ear. I know I'm blushing at this point but I can't help the heat that finds its way to my cheeks. Our gazes meet so intensely before he closes his eyes and leans in. I close my eyes as well and wait for his lips to crash against mine just like they did a few nights ago on my birthday.

"Just fucking say it. You know it's true," He whispers, his lips brushing against my ear and in turn sending chills down my spine.

I open my eyes and slightly turn my head to whisper into his ear.

"Never."

He leans back, still smirking. "Then I won't let you down. You have to stay on my lap until you say it."

"Actually," I nod to the clock on the microwave to the side of us. "You have an attack to go lead."

And with that, I climb off of a stunned Harry's lap and head upstairs.

I slide down the wall at the top of the steps and my breath hitches as I think about what just happened.

I would have kissed him.

If he would've made the move, I one hundred percent would have kissed him without a second thought.

The front door slams downstairs and snaps me out of my thoughts. I take a minute to let my breathing return to normal before finally going back downstairs to get some breakfast.

As I'm reaching in the cupboard for my cereal, a strange feeling hits me like a Mack Truck.

By the time I figure out what it is, I'm washing mine and Harry's breakfast dishes.

I'm worried about him.

He's on his way to go attack a rival gang right now so he can make a statement getting to them first and all I can think about is how much I want him to be okay.

He kidnapped me and all I can think about is how much I want him to be okay.

After all of the horrible things Harry as done, I still just want him to be okay.
