Monica Rhodes
I huffed as I finished my application form to yet another company. I needed a job, I couldn't have my best friend, paying the rent all by herself. I know she said it was fine but I couldn't help but feel guilty. "Hey do you think this would catch Anthony's eyes? Or this one?" My best friend, Luna asked me as she went through my closet. Rolling my eyes, I looked at her. "I really don't want to answer that." I chuckled. "So just because he's your brother you can't help me out?"
"Yes, yes that's exactly why, it's gross even thinking about it." I shuddered seeing them in bed. "Oh come on! One day you'll have me as your sister in law slash best friend." She has this huge crush on my brother for the longest and he did as well but they only flirted, never made anything official which was very annoying when you have to wake up because your best friend is crying over some girl he was with.
"This one time baby mama, I won't ask you to do this ever again." I rolled my eyes knowing it wasn't true. "You asked me to do this for you last month, ching chong." She giggled. Let me explain before I get hate. Luna and I hated each other since the day we could understand which was early. At kindergarten she told me.
'When you grow up, you're gonna be a professional baby mama.'
And everyone started laughing at me and as a kid, things hurt your feelings more than it really should so I told her.
'Go eat dog, Ching Chong.'
We both fought and got in trouble and was sent to the office but while we sat there waiting for our parents to come, we started talking and everything was history from that day forward. Yes, we were being very narrow minded but we were kids, we say things we never mean.
She ran her hand through her white hair. "Tell me when he comes in, I'll be all sexy and surprised he's here." She rushed out. "You're so dramatic sometimes." Luna looked at me. "I have to show him what he's missing." Luna was 26 years and loved younger men for some strange reason. Then came along my brother who was 3 years younger than her. He was also a model and had a lot of money but his heart was always at home with our parents.
"He's here! Go open the door!" She ran up the stairs. I wonder sometimes, how'd I get here. Opening the door, I met my brother, Anthony. "Big sis! I missed you!" He pulled me into a bear hug, making me laugh. "I saw you last week when you popped up to see me." I spoke sarcastically. He heard that Luna was having a date at the apartment and came to see if it was true.
Anthony walked in with his hands in his pockets. I folded m arms, waiting for him to ask for Luna. "Is there a reason you came by this time?" He turned, remembering. "Oh yeah! Mom wants you to come home for dinner." Giving a sigh, he smiled sadly at me. My mother never really liked me as a child. I usually went for dad and my brother. She was so disappointed that I turned out the darkest. She hated that she had to be seen with me, when they took pictures, she would make me take them while they smiled like the perfect family.
Anthony hated the way she treated me but whenever he got involved, things never go right. "When is it?" He checked his phone. "Two weeks from now." Just then Luna walked downstairs all sexy and casual looking like she didn't know he was here. "Oh! Tony, I didn't know you were here?" She puts her hand on her hips, smirking. You have to be kidding me.
Anthony pushed his dreads back, licking his lips. "Hey Luna, I haven't seen you in a while. How are you?" She shrugged, having her shirt fall off her shoulders a little. Oh no, live porn. "Okay I think it's time for you to go Tony, it's a long drive." He breaks eye contact with her and turns to me. "I probably should. Bye sis." He hugged me then went to Luna, hugging her, he squeezed her ass before pulling away. "Bye Luna." I closed the door looking at her.
"You guys are just nasty."
"You should just tell him how you feel instead of this off and on shit." I told her. "I want him to say how he feels first so I don't look like an idiot confessing to him. You know damn well he has an issue with expressing himself." I rolled my eyes. "We'll see." Luna came up to me, folding her arms. "What about you? At least I'm getting something."
That made me scoff. "I don't have to get laid to feel happy, ya know. I'm happy single, more time to focus on me." Which is half true, mostly guys see me has hard to approach but I'm not, I just look for certain things. If you come up to me like a gangster, you'll get slapped, if your pants is below your ass, don't bother trying. If you can't hold a decent conversation, then go back to school and if you can't pick up the check on a date then there won't ever be a second.
"What was so bad about getting wine for a date? Who drinks kool aid on a date?" Luna snickered at me. She thinks it funny. I once went on a date where he didn't have enough money so he made kool aid and brought it to our date so he wouldn't have to pay. "I'm classy not trashy-" We said the last part together. "And just a little bit sassy." We did our little handshake. "You just seem to attract the unwanted men." Which is sad but true. "But not this time. We are making a declaration tonight."
She filled two glasses of red wine, handing one to me. "From tonight, you are going to attract men that are on your level. No more dead beat men, no more kool aid men." I hit her softly before smiling. "Do you agree, Monica Farrah Trinity Rhodes?" I picked my glass up nodding. "I agree 100% Luna Chaerin Lee." Our glasses clinked before chucking down the wine.
