Apart from the occasional hooting of the owl which could be heard miles away, the night was otherwise calm. The clock had just stroked twelve and the students of All Saint Catholic School were deep in slumber when a piercing scream ripped the air accompanied by the banging of doors all the way down the corridor.
Mary Andrew woke up, gasping for air. She remained still on the bed hoping to hear a noise but was comforted by silence. It was a dream she concluded and laid down.
Again she was awoken by the piercing cry, this time loud and clear. Adjusting her eyes in the darkness she sees her roommates sleeping soundly oblivious of her plight.Reassuring herself it was a result of her dislike for the boarding school she laid down again wiping her brow when she heard the sound.
The clicking of heeled shoes across the hallway was real.Clutching the bedspread with shaky hands she prayed the Hail Mary as she awaited the presence of whoever it was.
She was soaked in her sweat as were her sheets, even her limbs were immobile. Swallowing noisily she reached for her rosary under her pillow and said the Hail Mary again."Mary." She shivered as the voice called out in a mocking tone.
Mary clutched her eyes tightly willing not to see. The priest assured them of her sanity in a few months but nothing seemed to work as she felt the figure come nearer. The Holy walls of the church were futile in eradicating the evil aura around her and now an impending doom was just a night away.
"Help me...Mary," the voice stressed.
"Save me father." She screamed, letting her heart out.
Her scream woke the girls as each girl switched from their torches or bedside lamp partially blinding themselves.
"Mary what happened?" Stella, her bunk mate peered from under the bunk.
"I... I... I heard a scream. There was banging and then footsteps. Someone was approaching the dorm. Next thing I heard was my...my.. my name." she stuttered still clutching her rosary tightly.
"It was a dream," a girl on the left chided wanting to go back to sleep.
"Yes Mary, that was a nightmare and nothing more," Stella added, rubbing her eyes.
"But it was real. It told me to help her, " She insisted.
"Babe it was just dream. Are you sure you're not..."
"Martha." Someone cuts her off.
Martha just shrugs and reposition herself on the bed.
"If you're scared we can just pray you know." Jade the prayer champion of the dorm offered. "Who's in?"
Four of the girls raised their hands while the other four looked on.
"Heavenly Father we thank you_" she started as Mary went into another realm.
