Cold. She was cold. Entrapped. Ice chilled her bones through the thick furs of her clothing, and her eyes stung through the thick sheet of ice that wrapped around her. All around her. She was trapped, trapped in the ice she had carved herself.
Yes, she remembers now. She had trapped herself in this icy prison, for centuries. But now it is time to escape.
She flexes her fingers in the block of ice she is trapped in. She must act fast, or she shall perish in the same place that was meant to preserve her. The ice splinters around her fingers, and she opens her glowing blue eyes. Her husband and child are trapped too. Her husband will survive on his own, but the child needs her mother. She needs her. A blue fire sparked from her eyes, and the ice around her pale face melts. She clenched her fist and the ice around her hands cracks, freeing her movement. She breaths out, sacrificing her last few breaths of air to loosen her chest. Her heart thundered. She needed to get out now. She took her last reserves of strength and burst through the ice.
The night air pressed against her pale face, rustling her blue braids. She took a deep breath in, the first one in hundreds of years. The moonlights pale glow washed over her face in white light, and she closed her eyes and breathed out.
The child, she remembers, the child.
Next to her, still trapped in the ice, are two figures. One is a large male, his eyes glowing blue and his fingers twitching in the ice. She smiles faintly. Yes, he is ready. But the figure next to him, a young girl. Her crystal clear blue eyes are panicked, and her nails claw at the ice. Her daughter is in danger.
She ignores the blistering cold, and she hits the ice, making it shatter into a million icy shards that glisten in the moonlight. A large crack opens up, and she slips her finger into the groove and breaks it off. Her daughter stumbles out, gasping. She falls into her embrace and her mother holds her tight. The sound of more ice shattering resounds in the cave behind them, and her husband steps out, shaking the sharp, freezing fragments of ice clinging to his skin like there were grains of sand. The three survey their surroundings.
They are alone in a cave, behind a cascade of misty water. The mother slips her hand through the wall of water. Her hand bursts through into cool night air, stinging the cuts on her pale skin from the ice. She takes both their hands and they walk through.
The night sky is scattered with stars, and the moon was a lopsided crescent that looked like polished marble against the dark blue sky. A small town is sprawled our near the bottom of their mountain. She breaths in the cold night air, the thrill of a new day send shivers down her spine, and a smile seeps onto her face. At last, she is free.
