Sledgehammer was in a deep sleep when a sudden sound awoke him. It was like someone was knocking on his window. He got out of bed and looked around. Probably those new kids in Paradise, he told himself. There was no one.
His heartbeat went up a little, but he got back into bed, and was about to doze off again when there was another knocking sound at the window. He jerked up and ran to the grimy window, ready to give whoever it was a piece of his mind. He lifted the glass, the ancient lock protesting as he pulled it open, and stuck his head out.
No one.
He stood there, his head out the window, for a few long minutes. When he was satisfied that no one would disrupt him again, he walked back to the bed when another knocking sound rapped, this time on a different window. Sledgehammer froze, listening closely. There was silence.
And then there was the sound of shattering glass.
He held his breath as footsteps creaked on the floor of his small home. They were approaching his bedroom. Not having time to think about the consequences, he ripped off the covers and launched into his wardrobe, upsetting a bunch of neatly hung up uniforms. He peered into his bedroom as two figures walked in. They were both dressed as circus clowns, but something wasn't quite right about them. They had giant masks over their heads, that both had creepy expressions on them. In the dim light, Sledgehammer could see a dark liquid splattered over their sleeveless shirts and masks. Maybe they were just a pair of drunk kids? The thought was slightly unnerving, but much better than any other alternative.
He shifted his foot a little to get a better view, but as always, luck was just never his way. As he moved his foot, his heel nudged a pair of his (cliche) sunglasses. The black glass hit the side of a wardrobe , the sound echoing in the small space. The female clown's head snapped toward the wardrobe. Sledgehammer quickly ducked down, trying to make as little noise as possible. But it was too late. The female clown giggled as she reached her pale, blood splattered arm through the wardrobe. Her gloved fingers brushed his wrist, and as soon as the brief contact was made, she snapped her hand out and wrapped her strong hand around his wrist. She s. In the dim moonlight, she looked even more horrifying. The mask was splattered with blood, both dry and fresh, and the mouth was stretched into a smile that was far, far, to wide. Her gloves had left blood prints on his wrist, and there was a shock of bright orange hair peeking out from under the mask. With her free hand, she covered the eyes of her mask, pulling him close.
"Peekaboo," she breathed into his ear, taking her hand away from the eyes of the mask, as if she was playing with a child, "I see you!" Her grip suddenly tightened on his wrist and she hauled him through the window with barely and effort. The male clown stood over him, drawing a serrated knife from his pocket. Sledgehammer could feel the hate and disgust rolling of him as he pressed the cool knife against his skin of his neck. The knife was cold, and the slight pressure the knife was putting on his was already drawing blood. The clown ran his finger along the knife, until he met Sledgehammer's skin.He leaned close, far too close, and whispered something into his ear.
"Night night," he breathed into his ear, "sleep tight!"
And then everything went black.
