Drift sat on the chair, gazing blankly into his cold cup of coffee. The white swirls of milk still spun around the brown mixture, and it's bitter smell robbed him of  his appetite. Sunstrider noticed this, and put down her cup.

"You don't like coffee?" Drift shook his head.
"Sorry," he said, feeling embarrassed even though his he had no real reason to be.
"It ok."

Sunstrider picked up his cup and poured the liquid into the sink. Then she looked back at him, as if she had had a brilliant idea. She walked over to him and sat on the chair next to him.

"Hey," she smiled, "do you wanna join the next Battle Royale? That might cheer you up ."

Drift was confused. Wasn't Battle Royale... the name of the island? What was she talking about?

"Uh," he asked her, "what's that?"

Battle Royale... he'd heard that term thrown around a few times during high school. Maybe it was... The meaning suddenly came back to him, gripping him like a fist. Crap.

"It's a huge battle that goes on once everyday, at 12:00 pm. One hundred players from all over the map compete for a Victory Royale. Guns are spread out across the map. When you die, you respawn on Spawn Island. There are 4 main types of ways you can play; Solos, Duos, Squads, and 50v50. Or, if you're lucky, a LTM game mode will come out."

Drift smiled back, although it was weak and strained. Oh, lucky him. He loves getting shot at. He glanced at Sunstrider, examining her expression. Wanting him to participate in some game were people are thrown into a pit and try to kill each other probably makes it more likely she's a cannibal.

"Yeah, I don't think that's something I could handle right now," Drift said, trying not to seem like a wimp or something. "Thanks for asking."

Sunstrider tilted her head at him.

"But you can't be an official part of the Island if you haven't gone into your first Battle Royale."

"Yeah, but what if I don't want to be part of the Island?"

"What do you mean?"

Drift clenched his jaw. He knew she meant well, but he couldn't help but feel a little attacked. How would she feel if she had been wrenched away from everything she had ever known, everyone she had ever loved?

"I just want to go home, ok?!" Drift snapped abruptly, standing up suddenly. His chair went toppling backwards, clattering to the floor. "Is that so hard to understand?"

Sunstrider looked up at him, wide-eyed. Drift swallowed and picked up his chair, then sat back down. He felt hot tears welling up in his eyes. No, crap, he couldnt cry. Not here, not now, not in front of her. Sunstrider swallowed.

"I... I'm sorry if I was pressuring you. I thought it might help take your mind off things."

"I-it, it's fine..."

Drift trailed off. Maybe she was right. In his scenario, any distraction would be a pleasant one. And... and if he never got home (which was a thought he preferred to keep at the back of his head for now) he... he could call this place his home. Or for now, at the very least.

"Okay," he grumbled, "I'll do it."

"Are you sure? You don't have to do it if you don't want t-"

"I'm sure."

"Well, okay then. The Battle starts in about an hour, so you better get ready. Also, you cannot participate in a Battle Royale in those cloths."
