♡ Chapter Five - Time Will Tell ♡

Pain is relative. How does one really know they feel pain? In the past moments, Adelaide knew she had. Her entire body ached from the memories. The loss of it all. All of it hit like a bombshell, one of the many that take place every day. The war between her mind and her heart.  The world had grew dark and silent as she knelt on the pavement. Her tears resembling waterfalls as they fell down her cheeks and hit the ground beneath her.

"So what do you say?" His voice seemed distant, but he was right there, right in front of her face. She raised her head just enough to see the man. He had stood up and was looking down at her. His arm extended out with his hand waiting patiently for her answer.   "Let the pain dig into you for the years to come or let me help you use it?" His smirk cut into her. Why? Why be like this?

Adelaide waited a moment and the man's stance or expression never changed. She wished she could know what was going on inside of his head. What did he want? How in the world could he possibly help me, especially now? Adelaide thought deep down inside and knew what she had to do. She can't live with this in her forever.

She reached out her arm placing her hand softly on his as he helped her stand again. He moved to her side, placing his hand on her back and motioning for her to move forward. As the two walked down the alley one this repeated in Adelaide's mind. I am sorry Marrie

The two began to get closer to the exit of the alley when a small black car pulled up to the curb. A man got out a stood beside the car, waiting. The streets were loud, Adelaide knew that from before, yet she heard nothing. It was all so distant, all so useless at this point.

"Thank you, Buckley." The man said and Buckley opened the door. The man motioned for Adelaide to step inside, she obeyed and slid over onto the far seat. The man followed behind her and Buckley shut the door behind the two before walking around the front of the car to the driver's seat and off they drove.

____

She sat silently, her head hung low. He did not speak either, instead, he sat on his phone, typing, texting. But who? She wondered. Who was this man talking to? Certainly not family, a man like him couldn't possibly have a family. No one he is close with at least. Maybe its a hitman? Someone wanting some business done? Who knows at this point, it could be anyone. They could be talking about anything.

The car soon came to a stop. Adelaide looked up quickly, curious about where they might be. The windows in the back seat were tinted and the front was separated by a privacy screen, leaving this trip a mystery to her. Buckley opened the door and the man slid out. Adelaide sat motionlessly. The man turned around and looked into the car.

"Well come on now." He said motioning for her to follow. "You don't want to see what happens if you don't cooperate."

Adelaide took a deep breath before sliding out of the car. The sun was bright. Once her eyes adjusted she looked around her surroundings. She was in a field. In the distance were trees. In front of them was a huge building, it looked abandoned. Why this place? She questioned. Oh no, I am going to die here, aren't I? Her heart raced and she began to shake a little more. Maybe I can run?

"There is nowhere for you to run to out her darling." He smiled. "So don't bother wasting energy, you will need it for what comes later." The man turned and began walking towards the building. Buckley got back in the car and drove off, leaving Adelaide stranded with the man.

"Hurry up Addi!" He yelled and she began to walk towards him. Once she finally caught up with him she looked towards him.

"You never did tell me who you are." Her voice cracked.

"Oh honey," he turned looking at her while walking backward. "I am one of a kind." He smiled he arms held out to the sides.

"Not what I meant but okay." She mumbled to herself and reluctantly walked into the building.
