L had been staying with us for two days now. I had sunk into hell it seemed. Don't get me wrong I loved my older brother, but he was just to damn perfect. He was so intelligent and smart. He was also cocky and childish. He got on my nerves almost as bad as Near does.

L the perfect child.

Near almost as smart as L.

And then theirs me. I could never beat either of them no matter how hard I try. I don't even understand how Near passes is classes all he does is play with stupid kid toys. He barley ever studies, he is just a naturally smart kid.

I stood looking out my window, the sky was finally setting and it looked pretty with its orange and pink shades. I let out a sigh before resting my forehead against the window. All the sudden I heard my bedroom door open. Expecting L or Near I didn't say anything, that's till I saw a red glare reflecting in the window. My head snapped up to see Matt standing next to me.

"Who let you in?" I asked him, not really caring if he was here or not.

"Near. He said you had cooped yourself up in your room since supper." He replied.

"I guess I have."

"Hey what's going on? Are you all right?"

"I'm fine Matt."

"You sure, you don't seem okay."

"I said I was fine!" I snapped at him, hoping he would just get pissed and leave.

That's not what happened. Instead he leaned in like he was going to kiss me. I took a step back only to make contact with the wall. He leaned in, my eyes completely concentrated on his lips. He was going to kiss me.

He didn't kiss me.

Wait was I disappointed? No I was just under pressure right now. That's all.

Instead his head swiveled to the side and his lips brush against my ear as he whispered, "Please Mello. Just tell me what is the matter?"

His whispers causing shivers down my spine.

"I just," I started with a slight stutter, "I just don't want to come last anymore. I want to be first." My voice came out in a whimper barely above a whisper.

"Maybe your already first you just haven't noticed it yet." He whispered in my ear causing me to shiver again.

I just shook my head. I wasn't first. Not yet, I had to out smart them,  L and Near. I had too, some how.

I felt Matt's arms embrace me in a hug. I didn't hug back, I simply stood their, but Matt didn't let go. I was so grateful.

He pulled me towards my bed and laid me down.

"You should get some sleep, you look like you haven't slept in years." Matt said, covering me with a blanket.

"Is that a polite way of saying I look like shit?" I asked giving him a half grin.

"Maybe." He said in the most serious way, no grin anywhere.

"Jerk." I grunted.

"Get some sleep ass whole." Matt said ruffling my hair.

Matt walked to the door as if he was going to leave.

"Hey Matt you can stay if you want." I said sleepily.

"No not tonight. You look like your about to pass out and the coach is already taken. Plus that twin bed wont hold both of us. Maybe some other time."

"Alright." My voice trailed off, as I was falling asleep.

I could've sworn I felt some one kiss my cheek and heard some one whisper in my ear, "You already have beat them Mello. Your the perfect example of perfection."
