I Miss You Matthew Johnson

Chapter 10

"Mello why don't you come out and party with us. You haven't been to a party since. . ."

Near stopped whatever he was about to say and I could hear gasps from the end of the line. Our discussion wasn't private. I bet L and Light are listening in. 

"Since Matt's death?" I finished. "I don't plan to go to a party for a long time."

"It has been over four months Mello." Near's voice was soft and soothing, but I didn't care. I didn't feel like partying. The only thing I wanted to do was curl up in one of Matt's old shirts and sleep. 

"Look I know what happened to Matt was tragic, but you can't just shut yourself from the world! We miss you Mello, and. . ." I hung up the phone and put it on silent. 

They didn't understand nor would they ever. He wanted me to marry him. Even though I found this news out months ago, it still shocked me. I touch the engagement ring that was hanging from a chain around my neck. I twisted the ring around my finger and watched as my phone lit up with calls and text. Slowly I opened the one text I received from L. It simply read,

        Hey going to Jake's Bar in case you decide you want to come. We miss you. 

I closed my phone and walked to mine and Matt's bedroom that we had been sharing together. I took one of Matt's crinkled striped shirts off the floor and throw it on over my shirtless body. I crawled in bed and unlocked my phone. I opened one new text message and text 

        I miss you, Matthew Johnson.

Not soon after I received a message, I half expected it to be Matt saying he loved me and missed me too. Instead the message read something about the number no longer being in use. I sighed closed my eyes and fell asleep
