Scarlett POV:

As I walk down the hall to the North side of the school, I glance in the direction of the Sophomore dance clique. Most of them are white, annoying, stereotype, skinny girls, but one of them is different. Her name’s Demi I’m pretty sure. She seems sweet by what I’ve seen. I just wish she wouldn’t let those girls have control over her and put her down just because of her skin color. She has skin a lot like my caramel skin, but a tad lighter. I always see one of the girls, Sydney, talking badly about her. She looks up, and our eyes lock. I give her a small smile, hoping to give her the most encouragement I can, so she can escape from that terrible cage those girls locked her in. She’s ridiculously beautiful, but she doesn’t seem to see it.

“What are you looking at, bitch?”

Oh, and I think I failed to mention the whole group seems to hate me, with a deep passion, except Demi. I’m about 99% sure it has to do with me telling their little leader, Sydney, to fuck off when she was trying to be a bitch to me when we first met.

~Flashback~

I walk into the cramped lunchroom looking for my friends. I spot them on the stage waving at me, and I smile at them. I’m a sophomore, so I'm in my second year of high school. I walk toward the lunch line and Leo walks up to me.

“Hey. I met this girl, Sydney Peters. She wanted to sit with us and I said okay. Is that alright?”

“Yeah, of course it is Leo, as long as she isn’t a bitch.”

“Well,” he chokes nervously.

“Leo…” I say slightly irritated.

People say I’m the nice one but, honestly, Leo is the real sweetheart. He is inviting and warm, and I am the same way, unless you are a pain. He’s kind to everyone; even the ones who call him hateful words like fag, gay, etc.

“She’s only a bit bitchy.”

“Okay.” I pause to think. “I’ll try to play nice. But, if she steps over the line, forget it.”

“Yes, ma’am.” he salutes me, which makes me laugh.

“Now, help me find something good to eat, servant.” I giggle, as he does aswell.

-3 minutes later-

I end up choosing a cheeseburger with lettuce and ketchup and next I grab some fries with ketchup and mustard. Leo is still by my side, looking absolutely adorable today. He’s wearing a light blue denim shirt, black skinny jeans that are loose at the bottom, black boots that blend with the aforementioned, his favorite bead necklace hanging down his firm chest, and a gray beanie over his head. I am clad in a plain white shirt tucked into my black shorts with white studs on the sides and my black arrow earrings. My hair is down natural today and they make perfect waves down my stomach, and back. I’m also wearing my favorite black high tops, which I washed yesterday, and, to finally finish the outfit, my multi-colored stud nose piercing.

We walk towards the table with our trays and greet everyone. The Sydney girl already made a wrong move when I spot her sitting in my seat, but I, now regrettably, promised Leo to play nice, so I sit on the Leo's right side. I can't make the joke he is my righthand man since he was on my left, which makes me a little sad. I begin to eat my food when Sydney decides to speak. Her voice is the most irritating sound I’ve ever heard in my lifetime, which says a lot, but I manage to give her a smile.

“I’m Sydney. Sydney Peters. That’s spelled S-Y-D---”

“We don’t need you to spell your name. It’s fairly common.” I say as calmly as I can muster.

Leo looks at me, and I give him a smile. He knows that smile. It's my she’s-already-getting-on-my-nerves smile.

“Yeah, well, I just wanted to make sure you knew how to spell my name since, well...”

“Well, what, Sydney.” I’m fairly irritated by now.

I squint at her, daring her with my eyes to say I’m stupid since I’m Hispanic.

“Does it really matter.” Leo calmly says, trying to make it less tense at the table and the entire cafeteria.

I hadn’t even noticed until now the whole cafeteria was waiting for Sydney’s answer and preparing for me to destroy her.

“Well, you have darker skin and, aren’t you Mexican? I mean, your parents are drug dealers, no?” she says the no with a terribly mocked Spanish accent.“Are you even here legally?”

I get up from my chair slowly, as does she. I laugh a bit at the last remark she says. Everyone’s eyes are on us, and I can hear a few people call Sydney a bitch and other words. I walk towards her until she’s in an arm's reach.

I whisper to Leo,“If you want we can just leave. She’s just another attention wannabe.”

He faces me and dives into my hazel eyes while I reciprocate him into his brown ones. Then he watches Sydney and finally says,“Go to hell, wannabe.”

I grin. Leo has always had my back.

“Cockknoker.”

My jaw drops. Now she has definitely past the line. I give her my worst glare and when she looks away because of the intensity, I speak.

“Look, you fucking Starbucks Vanilla Bean Frappuccino. Leo told me to be nice, but you don’t get to walk in here and try to absorb all the attention in the entire cafeteria through your butthole. I was going to leave and let the school deal with you, but you know what? F.uck it. I don’t like you, and probably 80% of the school doesn't either because you are a wannabe. You better hide under your bed because I’m coming for you, ass sucker. And I just can’t wait to see your twitter post after this.”

I strut out with Leo, while the whole cafeteria goes crazy with 'oooo' and ‘aaaaa’. We leave a shocked Sydney there with her mouth open.

~End Of Flashback~

“Fuck off, Vanilla Bean.” I smile at Demi, and continue to walk down the hall, and I hear Sydney try to make a good comeback. I flip her off. You can't burn a fire, Vanilla Bean, no matter how hard you try.
